Cultural cooperation - a bright spot in 75 years of friendship

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong affirmed: “Vietnam always attaches importance to cultural development as a spiritual pillar of society, a sustainable endogenous resource for national development. In that process, cultural cooperation with countries with a rich heritage and humanitarian spirit such as the Czech Republic always plays a special role.”

Looking back on the 75 years of establishing diplomatic relations (1950-2025), the two countries have cultivated a strong foundation of friendship, nurtured by mutual trust.

The deep cultural exchange and especially the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic with nearly 100,000 people recognized by the local government as an official ethnic minority, is a lively bridge between the two cultures.

Over the years, many unique cultural exchange programs have contributed to connecting the two nations, typically: Vietnam Cultural Year in the Czech Republic (2015), ASEAN Film Festival in the Czech Republic (2024), cooperation programs between the Vietnam National Academy of Music and the Bohemian Symphony Orchestra in Prague (2025), along with a series of exhibitions, film weeks and art programs bearing the imprint of bilateral relations.

At the meeting, both sides highly appreciated the cooperation results and expressed their determination to expand the scope of cooperation in the coming time.

Deputy Minister Ho An Phong proposed promoting exchanges of art delegations and cultural experts; organizing bilateral events at cultural institutions such as museums, theaters, and galleries; especially in the fields of cultural industry and film set design - a new direction that Vietnam is prioritizing for development.

Czech Republic is ready to accompany Vietnam in spreading cultural values

The leaders of the Czech Republic's Ministry of Culture also expressed their goodwill in supporting Vietnam in training high-quality cultural human resources, especially non-professional artists, translating Vietnamese literature into Czech and widely introducing it to local readers.

Deputy Minister David Kaspar said: “Vietnamese cuisine, literature and art are becoming a vibrant part of Czech cultural life. We are ready to accompany Vietnam to promote and spread those values.”

The Czech side also invited Vietnam to participate in annual international events in the Czech Republic such as the Film, Circus, Theatre Festivals and especially the 16th Film Set Design Festival, scheduled to be held in 2027 - an opportunity for Vietnamese filmmakers to access contemporary European cinema art trends.

A notable content at the meeting was the Czech side's proposal to establish a Czech Cultural Center in Vietnam.

Regarding this issue, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong said that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has received the official Note from the Czech Embassy in Vietnam and is providing instructions to complete the procedures according to Vietnamese law.

The working session ended with a commitment to continue supporting each other at multilateral cultural cooperation forums, especially within the framework of UNESCO.

Both sides share the belief that culture is not only a spiritual bridge between two peoples, but also the foundation for strengthening peace, understanding and sustainable development in a volatile world context.

This visit once again affirms the pioneering role of cultural diplomacy in Vietnam's foreign policy strategy, while opening up prospects for extensive and practical cooperation between Vietnam and the Czech Republic in a new era, where heritage, creativity and people are at the heart of all connections.
