Proposing Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee to intervene in the sand mine case that operates regardless

The People's Committee of Ia Hiao Commune (Gia Lai Province) requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to report to the Provincial People's Committee to consider temporarily suspending sand mining by Gia Duy One Member Co., Ltd. until completing the procedures according to regulations.

On August 30, the People's Committee of Ia Hiao commune sent a report to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province on handling the existing problems in the construction sand mining project of Gia Duy One Member Co., Ltd. (headquartered at Group 12, Pleiku Ward, Gia Lai Province).

According to the People's Committee of Ia Hiao Commune, Gia Duy Company Limited organized sand mining without meeting the legal requirements. The company also failed to fully comply with the requirements of the People's Committee by the end of July 2025.

At the same time, the sand mine of Gia Duy LLC has raised some opinions from the community. At meetings with voters, voters were very upset and opposed the extension of the mining license for Gia Duy LLC.

Some opinions suggested separating the overlapping part with the traditional Yang Drun Ia water wharf to meet the needs and aspirations of the people of So Ma Hang A and So Ma Hang B villages, Ia Hiao commune, regarding the preservation and restoration of the traditional water wharf of the Jrai people.

People protested against the sand mine's operation for fear of losing their traditional water port.

Considering the actual situation with many sensitive contents, the People's Committee of Hiao commune requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to report to the People's Committee of Gia Lai province to consider temporarily suspending the sand mining activities of Gia Duy One Member Co., Ltd. until completing the procedures according to regulations.

In addition, the Ia Hiao Commune People's Committee also requested the Department to preside over and support the locality in reviewing and separating the overlapping area of ​​sand mining with the traditional Yang Drun Ia water wharf to restore the area and rebuild the Yang Drun Ia water wharf of the Jrai people.

At the same time, guide the legal procedures to implement the conservation and restoration of "Yang Drun Ia wharf" according to the wishes of the people of So Ma Hang A and So Ma Hang B villages, Ia Hiao commune.

As reported by CAND Newspaper, the sand mine of Gia Duy One Member Co., Ltd. has just had its mineral exploitation license extended under License No. 436/GP-UBND dated June 26, 2025 issued by the People's Committee of Gia Lai Province (old), with an extension period until June 6, 2031. In July 2025, Gia Duy One Member Co., Ltd. vigorously organized sand exploitation despite not meeting the required conditions (no markers, no weighing station, no land lease...).

Following the press, the Ia Hiao Commune People's Committee requested the company to temporarily stop sand mining and provide additional documents and papers as required. However, local residents reported that the company continued to secretly mine sand despite many agencies inspecting and requesting the company to stop its operations.
