Checking the safety and structure of Vinh Tuy bridge after the fire at the parking lot under the bridge

The police are investigating the cause of the fire at the parking lot under Vinh Tuy Bridge. The Department of Construction has also asked the consulting unit to inspect issues related to safety and structure of Vinh Tuy Bridge after the fire.

On the afternoon of August 30, in a quick phone conversation with reporters, Mr. Tran Huu Bao, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Construction, said that he had received information about the fire at the car and motorbike parking lot under Vinh Tuy Bridge, near the foot of the bridge. Currently, the police are investigating the cause of the incident. The Department of Construction has asked the consulting unit to inspect issues related to safety and structure of the Vinh Tuy Bridge section where the fire just occurred.

Previously, at around 12:15 on August 30, a large fire broke out at a car and motorbike parking lot under Vinh Tuy Bridge (Hanoi), near the foot of the bridge.

Witnesses at the scene said that at that time, they discovered thick black smoke and a burning smell coming from the area under Vinh Tuy Bridge and Hanoi Port. When observing from above, they saw many cars and motorbikes inside and the fire was raging fiercely.

Upon receiving the news, the Command Information Center and Hanoi City Police dispatched the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police force to the scene to extinguish the fire.

The big fire burned down many cars.

By 2:00 p.m. the same day, the fire was extinguished by the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Force and Hanoi City Police. However, many motorbikes were left with only their frames.

It is known that the authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire. It is worth noting that many people after witnessing the fire expressed concern. With such a large fire, will it affect the safety structure of Vinh Tuy bridge?

Many areas under overpasses in Hanoi are used as temporary parking lots.

It is worth mentioning that from 2023, regarding the use of underpasses for vehicle parking, many traffic experts are concerned about fires and traffic congestion, especially during rush hour. Instead, large cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City need to plan to build elevated and underground parking lots to serve the people.

According to the reporter's records, from 2024, some areas under overpasses in the city such as Vinh Tuy (Hai Ba Trung district), Nga Tu Vong (Dong Da district), Chuong Duong (Hoan Kiem district) have been put into operation, becoming temporary parking lots for cars and motorbikes.
