Will evaluate milling facilities along National Highway 1 through Tan An City for appropriate planning

In Tan An City, Long An Province, there are still many rice mills operating along National Highway 1. The operations of these facilities not only affect the environment, increasing the risk of traffic accidents due to the continuous entry and exit of trucks, but also significantly affect urban beautification.

Faced with this situation, the delegation of Tan An City People's Council requested the Department of Construction of Long An province to have a solution, especially in planning to relocate the above-mentioned milling facilities to a more suitable location.

According to the Department of Construction of Long An province, the socio-economic development in Tan An city is in a transitional phase in accordance with the actual situation. Meanwhile, many rice milling factories were invested in very early, mainly concentrated along National Highway 1, the main traffic route of the region, so they have partly penetrated into the old urban structure.

Also according to the General Planning of Tan An City approved by the Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 3767/QD-UBND, dated October 14, 2015, the area adjacent to National Highway 1 and the Long An - Tien Giang canal is identified as an industrial and handicraft production area. Therefore, the existence of rice milling facilities in this area is still legally consistent with the planning. However, the current reality shows that this area has not yet implemented a specific zoning plan, making the relocation work still facing many difficulties.

With the rapid urbanization of Tan An City, especially in the context that Tan An City is oriented to become the administrative center of the new Tay Ninh province (merged from Long An and Tay Ninh from July 1, 2025), the existence of rice milling facilities mixed in residential areas and along key traffic routes is no longer appropriate. The operation of these facilities not only affects the urban aesthetics but also increases the risk of traffic accidents, environmental pollution and hinders the development of urban green spaces.

According to the Director of the Department of Construction - Dang Hoang Tuan, in response to the above shortcomings, the Department will coordinate with the Department of Finance to review and evaluate the current operating status of existing rice milling facilities, on that basis, propose solutions to renovate or relocate to suitable and feasible locations. Organize planning adjustments, invest in the construction of concentrated agricultural production areas, with clear planning and synchronous infrastructure, convenient for transportation, meeting production needs while still ensuring environmental factors and traffic safety.

"The Department of Construction will coordinate with Khanh Hau ward (new) to organize the establishment and approval of urban planning in the area, creating a legal basis for the gradual improvement and effective exploitation of existing land funds as a driving force for local socio-economic development" - Mr. Dang Hoang Tuan informed.

The arrangement and relocation of rice milling facilities in Tan An City not only aims to ensure traffic safety and living environment for people, but is also an important step in the process of urban renovation and development into a modern and civilized city.

This process requires synchronous coordination between functional sectors and local authorities, along with consensus from businesses, to aim for sustainable development goals in the new period./.
