Despite winning the Europa League, Tottenham still fired Postecoglou. |
“It was a club decision, we as players didn’t have much say. Of course, he (Postecoglou) is the first coach in a long time to bring trophies and success to Spurs. In that sense, it was a strange choice for the club,” Van de Ven told Voetbal Zone .
“We didn’t have much say in the decision, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens,” the Dutch defender stressed. “A lot of the players in the team are compatible with Postecoglou. He’s the first coach to bring success to the club in a long time, which shows that he has the quality and the 100% winning mentality. So it’s hard to understand why he’s sacked.”
The decision to sack Postecoglou was not unanimous among Tottenham players, with the Telegraph reporting that many players were angry with the way the board handled the situation.
Several first-team players are ready to leave the club this summer. An unnamed player told the Daily Mail: "The players are very angry with what has happened. The new manager will face a difficult situation."
Brentford manager Thomas Frank is the frontrunner to replace Postecoglou. Tottenham are expected to appoint Thomas Frank this week.
