Cultivate the habit of learning and reading
Without choosing elaborate decorative details or eye-catching "check-in" corners, Artemis English Center (Phu Ly Ward) creates a very unique highlight with an open reading space right in the lobby. With simple but neat wooden bookshelves, containing about 5,000 to 6,000 books in many fields, this is not only a place to wait for class, but has become a familiar destination for students, as well as many young people who love books in the area. The reading space at Artemis English is designed to be gentle and friendly with a few tables and chairs to serve the needs of reading, group study or relaxation. The books here are very diverse: from literature, children's stories, discovery stories, history, geography to science and technology... Notably, up to 80% of the books are foreign language books, mainly in English, Japanese, Chinese, carefully selected, suitable for the age, level and interests of the center's students as well as young people in the area.
Artemis English's book sources are mainly built from personal collections. This is not only an effort to enrich reading resources, but also demonstrates the passion for creating a proactive and comprehensive learning culture for students. Mr. Tran Quang Thien, Director of Artemis English Center said: "We do not want the lobby to be just a boring waiting place. Bringing books into daily living spaces helps students proactively access knowledge, form reading habits and practice thinking in the language they are learning. Reading brings practical value, not only in acquiring knowledge but also in the ability to think independently, critically and expand vocabulary."
Reading is also integrated into the curriculum. The center regularly organizes book exchange sessions, in which teachers play the role of orienting and introducing suitable books; students then do their own research, translate a favorite passage from the book or write a summary of the content in English. Small discussions are held afterwards, helping students practice their presentation skills, respond and share their thoughts in a foreign language.
In addition, the center also has an activity of giving books to students with good academic achievements, as a way to encourage reading and spread the value of knowledge. With this approach, Artemis English not only creates an effective learning space, but also contributes to nurturing a reading culture among young people. Designing the lobby into a reading space is a creative solution and a meaningful educational orientation, helping learners engage with the language, explore knowledge and turn each lesson into an inspiring experience.
Space connecting heritage and knowledge
In the turbulent pace of modern life, Ba Ngan Art Exhibition House (Hoa Lu Ward) appears as a special quiet space, not only a destination for book lovers, but also a cultural exhibition space, where books and heritage go hand in hand, honoring the depth of knowledge and national identity.
Unlike traditional libraries or regular bookstores, Ba Ngan Art is designed as an applied cultural space: there, each book is not only for reading, but also viewed as an exhibition piece, a cultural relic of historical and aesthetic significance. The bookshelves are placed next to traditional handicrafts, replicas of ancient costumes, antiques, etc., creating an intersection between knowledge recorded in books and knowledge realized through objects.
According to Ms. Son Do Quyen, representative of the exhibition space, Ba Ngan Art aims to “bring books back to life in a practical way”, that is, not reading books passively, but living with them, conversing and contemplating. The book collection here is mostly collected from book lovers, cultural researchers, and preserves many rare books, out of print, bearing the mark of time through paper material, font, and even handwritten notes of old readers. At Ba Ngan Art, books are not only knowledge, but also a form of living exhibition, where readers quietly contemplate, connect with themselves and their cultural roots. The concept of “integrating but not dissolving” is preserved as a core value, helping young people not only learn about the world but also understand and appreciate national identity.
The special feature is the interplay between books and exhibition objects, which together convey cultural depth, suggesting many layers of meaning about history, geography, psychology, heritage, geography, etc. The book's theme is about depth and inner thoughts, encouraging young people to think deeply instead of accessing superficial information. Student Nguyen Thi Hong Hanh (Hanoi University of Culture) shared: "I learned about Ba Ngan Art through social networks, and the first time I came, I felt the harmony. This space is very suitable for the field of study and cultural perspective that I pursue."
Whether present in a dynamic foreign language center or an exhibition space imbued with the spirit of heritage, books still play a central role, as a bridge between knowledge, culture and emotions. Creating friendly and creative reading spaces not only contributes to renewing the approach to books, but also creates conditions for learners, especially young people, to cultivate reading habits in a natural, profound and sustainable way. With just a little quiet, a few books and a desire to slow down in the midst of a busy life, reading culture can be aroused in a very natural, intimate and sustainable way.
