This morning, Ho Chi Minh City announced the 10th grade entrance exam scores: The chance of passing is higher than ever.

(Dan Tri) - Today (June 23), the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced the 10th grade exam scores for the 2025-2026 school year. According to initial records, the exam scores are positive, the competition rate has decreased sharply, and the candidates' chances of being admitted have increased.

The test scores are promising.

The 2025 grade 10 entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City was predicted from the beginning to be "easier" than previous years when the number of candidates decreased and the admission rate increased. Along with that, this year's exam brought joy to candidates when there were questions that were easy to "score", especially in math, the difficulty level was significantly reduced.

On June 6-7, more than 76,000 candidates took the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City with 3 exams: math, literature, and English. Candidates taking the specialized/integrated exam took an additional specialized/integrated exam.

The grading of the 10th grade exams in Ho Chi Minh City was completed on June 16. According to initial assessments, this year's math exam saw a marked improvement in the score distribution. Although the number of 10s decreased slightly (about 40 10s compared to nearly 50 10s in 2024), the number of exams with scores of 8-9.75 increased significantly.

Notably, the majority of candidates scored 6-7 points, a positive change compared to last year's 4-5.5 points. This shows that this year's math exam has been adjusted more appropriately, helping candidates easily achieve a good score.

For literature, the average score range is 6.5-7 points. The number of exams with high scores (8-9 points) is not much. Many teachers said they have not recorded a score of 10 in this subject, the highest is 9.75 points.

Meanwhile, English posed a different challenge. Many marking groups recorded about 30% of the test scores below average and the common score ranged between 6 and 7 points.

The number of 10 points also decreased by about 1/3 compared to last year. The decrease in the number of candidates taking the exam along with the change in the way questions are set according to the 2018 generaleducation program is considered the main factor that makes English more difficult and more differentiated.

Initial competition ratio drops sharply

One of the most notable points of this year’s entrance exam is the record drop in the competition rate for public 10th grade. The exam had about 76,200 candidates, fluctuating depending on the subject. Meanwhile, the total target was 70,070 students, achieving an admission rate of approximately 92%.

This means that there are only more than 6,000 candidates who do not have a chance to be admitted to public schools, a sharp decrease compared to the level of about 20,000 candidates in previous years. Meanwhile, the private school system has nearly 19,500 places, creating many opportunities for candidates to choose.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the number of 9th grade students has decreased significantly compared to previous years, which means less competitive pressure to enter public 10th grade.

According to Dan Tri reporter's statistics, in the regular 10th grade, Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School has the highest competition rate in the city when calculated in total (both integrated and regular classes) at 1/2.9.

If we only count the regular class, the competition ratio of this school is 1/3.14. This is also the highest and only competition ratio reaching 3.0 or higher this year.

Surprisingly, schools that were previously in the top group in terms of competition ratio such as Nguyen Thuong Hien High School and Gia Dinh High School "fell out" of the top 10 for the first time with competition ratios of 1/1.36 and 1/0.96, respectively. This decline reflects the general trend of easing enrollment pressure.

The competition ratio is calculated based on the initial published data and may change after adjusting preferences (Chart: Huyen Nguyen).

On the other hand, 44 schools have a competition ratio of less than 1, meaning that the number of applicants is less than the quota. If you apply to these schools, you have a higher chance of being admitted.

Overview data shows that 85/107 schools reduced the competition rate for regular 10th grade (accounting for more than 79%), 20 schools increased their quota (accounting for nearly 19%), and only 2 high schools, Tran Quang Khai High School and Quang Trung High School, kept the original competition rate.

The school with the sharpest decrease in competition ratio is Ho Thi Bi High School, from 1/3.06 in 2024 to 1/1.66. This also caused the school to drop its competition ratio ranking by 10 places, from 2nd to 12th. This is also the only school with a reduction in competition ratio of more than 1.

The next four schools with the sharpest decrease in competition ratio are: Saigon Practical High School, Binh Hung Hoa High School, University of Education Practical High School and Nguyen Van Cu High School with a decrease from 0.77 to 0.96.

On the increase side, the school with the strongest increase in competition ratio is Nguyen Thi Dinh High School for Gifted Sports, from 1/0.57 in 2024 to 1/1.07 in 2025, an increase of 0.5.

According to the plan of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, from 8:00 a.m., the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will meet with school leaders to unify and announce the standard scores for specialized grade 10 of two specialized high schools including Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted and the integrated grade 10 standard scores for high schools enrolling in the integrated program.

Candidates can look up their 10th grade exam results from 8:30.

Candidates admitted to specialized or integrated grade 10 must confirm their admission by June 25. If they do not confirm their admission, they will be considered for admission based on their 3 regular grade 10 preferences.

It is expected that the standard scores for regular classes will be announced on the morning of June 26.
