Rio Ferdinand warns Gyokeres

But the important thing is in the penalty area, whether he can find space and score from the combinations of Odegaard or Saka. That is the way to affirm his value.”

Not only Ferdinand, Jamie Carragher also gave a remarkable perspective. On Sky Sports , the former Liverpool defender predicted that Arteta could drop Gyökeres from the starting lineup in big matches: “To be honest, I think Arsenal will return to Havertz in important matches. Gyökeres can score goals, but Havertz is the card that Arteta will find difficult to ignore.”

With 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting CP last season, Gyökeres certainly isn't short of goalscoring ability.

This opinion surprised Gary Neville: "There's no way Arteta would leave Gyökeres on the bench in big games", but Carragher insisted: "Absolutely possible."

Neville then suggested a compromise: “Perhaps Arteta should try both Gyökeres and Havertz at the same time. Martinelli is out of form, and that could be the solution for Arsenal’s attack,”
