On the first day (August 1) of piloting the sale of E10 RON95 bio-fuel at 6 stores in Hanoi and Hai Phong , Vietnam Oil Corporation (PVOIL) sold nearly 10,000 liters, of which the Hanoi area with 4 stores reached nearly 6,300 liters and the Hai Phong area with 2 stores reached more than 3,400 liters.
Notably, PVOIL Nghia Tan petrol station (Hanoi) achieved sales of E10 RON95 exceeding 3,000 liters on the first day.
Customers are beginning to understand the benefits of biofuel.
At PVOIL's pilot petrol stations, the E5 RON92 petrol stations previously sold were converted to sell E10 RON95 petrol, and were decorated in an eye-catching, easy-to-identify manner, with dedicated staff providing advice, helping people better understand this new fuel.
In addition, PVOIL continues to supply RON95 mineral gasoline and other products to meet diverse consumer needs. Currently, the retail price of E10 RON95 gasoline at PVOIL gas stations is VND19,600/liter, VND200/liter higher than E5 RON92 and VND240/liter lower than RON95-III mineral gasoline.
At this price, E10 RON95 biofuel is competitively priced with advantages in fuel quality and is more environmentally friendly.
With careful preparation and active communication and introduction to customers, on the first day of the pilot, at PVOIL's petrol stations, the pilot E10 bio-fuel initially recorded positive reception from customers.
At the PVOIL Thai Thinh petrol station (Hanoi), technology driver Nguyen Van Trong said he filled up with E10 gasoline following the advice of the sales staff, although he was a bit concerned about the quality of this new biofuel. Mr. Trong also said that E10 gasoline is not only cheaper than RON95 gasoline but also contributes to protecting the environment.
Ms. Le Thi Huong, an office worker, said she has been used to using E5 gasoline for many years, so she felt completely secure when switching to E10 gasoline after being enthusiastically advised by PVOIL's sales staff about the benefits of this biofuel in protecting the environment.
At PVOIL Nghia Tan petrol station (Hanoi), a customer said that Hanoi is very polluted, so switching to E10 bio-fuel will gradually create positive changes.

E10 gasoline sales will be expanded in many areas
To serve the widespread deployment of E10 RON95 gasoline, PVOIL has synchronously upgraded the blending infrastructure system at strategic warehouses nationwide, including improving the tank system, blending equipment and updating modern technology to meet the technical standards of E10 gasoline.
In addition to the existing advantage of a system of nearly 900 gas stations, PVOIL also has a nationwide network of warehouses and ports and more than 10 years of experience operating the E5 RON92 bio-fuel blending system. The Corporation also has a team of highly specialized technicians, ready to operate the E10 production and distribution system effectively and safely.
According to a PVOIL representative, during the pilot period, PVOIL's gas stations will proactively collect customer feedback on product quality and related issues to quickly improve. Not stopping in Hanoi and Hai Phong, in August 2025, PVOIL will continue to implement E10 RON95 gasoline blending in Da Nang and Quang Ngai, expanding the retail network in the Central region.
PVOIL is also ready to process and blend E10 gasoline for other sources, affirming its leading role in ensuring a stable supply for the market. After the pilot phase, PVOIL is ready for the roadmap to deploy the use of E10 bio-fuel nationwide from January 1, 2026, said a representative of PVOIL.

Need a synchronized solution
In the world, many countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Brazil, the US... have mixed E20 biofuel, some countries have even used E85 biofuel, which is mixed with up to 85% Ethanol. With Vietnam requiring the use of E10 gasoline nationwide from January 1, 2026, the effectiveness of reducing emissions will be increased compared to only encouraging the use of E5 RON92 biofuel but still circulating RON95 mineral gasoline at the same time as at present.
However, in reality, many customers are still concerned about the quality of biofuel. A survey at some Petrolimex gas stations in Ho Chi Minh City showed that on the first day of piloting the mass sale of E10 gasoline, some customers such as taxis, technology cars, and blue license plate cars of administrative units with contracts have positively received this biofuel product line that helps reduce emissions.
Meanwhile, some individual customers, when consulted, requested to switch to buying RON95 mineral gasoline because they wanted to consult more opinions from colleagues who had used it.
Mr. Quang Nguyen (Hanoi) said that he had previously tried using E5 gasoline for his personal car. Although the car still ran, the engine was a bit sluggish and did not accelerate as quickly as when running on RON95 gasoline. Therefore, "if there were still mineral gasoline stores like today, I would still prioritize choosing RON95 gasoline for cars, and maybe just try E10 gasoline for motorbikes," said Mr. Quang Nguyen.
In fact, at some E10 gasoline stores, the number of customers filling up with this new type of biofuel is mainly motorbikes or service cars, almost no customers driving personal cars choose E10 gasoline. On some forums about cars and motorbikes, many drivers believe that cars manufactured before 2000 should not be filled with biofuel because they use carburetors that are not designed to use biofuel.
Meanwhile, cars manufactured after 2000 are equipped with electronic fuel injection systems, compatible with the use of biofuel. Some drivers believe that car and motorbike manufacturers should soon clearly announce fuel standards compatible with car engines so that customers can feel secure in using them.
Many experts believe that in order to move towards mandatory use of E10 gasoline nationwide from January 1, 2026, further promoting the benefits of using biofuel in protecting consumers' health as well as having a mechanism to encourage biofuel prices in the initial stage will be necessary solutions for consumers to change their consumption habits.
