On August 17, a source from Vinmec Phu Quoc International General Hospital (Phu Quoc special zone, An Giang - formerly Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang ) said that the hospital's doctors had just successfully performed surgery on a pregnant woman with severe brain trauma due to a traffic accident.

Doctor examines pregnant woman with NTTQ after surgery

Previously, the hospital received patient NTQ (18 years old) in a deep coma after a serious traffic accident. This is a very special case, because the patient is 25 weeks pregnant.

After examination, the doctors determined that the pregnant woman was severely swollen and diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury. Specifically, the skull was complexly fractured, with a large amount of blood clot in the frontal lobe, along with a fracture of the lower jaw. Notably, the patient was 25 weeks pregnant, a gestational age that would make it difficult to care for the child when the fetus was actively removed by cesarean section if the mother could not be saved.

According to Master, Doctor Nguyen Nhat Tan (Vinmec Phu Quoc International General Hospital), this is a surgery related to 2 lives, because the fetus is only 25 weeks old, if the surgery fails, both mother and child could be lost.

"We activated the red alert, mobilizing all human resources from the Emergency Department, Neurosurgery and especially the Obstetrics Department to perform the operation. After completing the tests, we decided to perform emergency surgery on the patient to first save the mother's life and ensure the safety of the fetus.

Fortunately, after 4 days of intensive care and now on the 10th day after surgery, the patient is fully awake and the fetus is developing well.

Knowing that the pregnant woman NTTQ's family was poor, the hospital doctors mobilized benefactors to support 30 million VND and used the charity fund to support 50% of the hospital costs so that she could rest assured during treatment.
