Previously, patient NTTQ (18 years old) was admitted to the hospital in a deep coma after a serious traffic accident. This is a very special case because the patient is a pregnant woman only 25 weeks old.
After receiving and examining, doctors at Vinmec Phu Quoc International General Hospital determined that Ms. Q. had severe swelling and was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury.
Specifically, the skull was fractured, with a large amount of blood in the frontal lobe, and a fracture of the lower jaw. Notably, the patient was 25 weeks pregnant, a gestational age that would make it difficult to care for the baby when the mother was actively removed by cesarean section if she could not be saved.

According to Master, Doctor Nguyen Nhat Tan, Vinmec Phu Quoc International General Hospital, this is a surgery involving two lives, because the fetus is still very young, if the surgery fails, both mother and child could be lost.
“We activated the hospital’s red insurance program and mobilized all human resources from the emergency resuscitation department, neurosurgery department, and especially the obstetrics department to perform the procedure. After completing the tests, we decided to perform emergency surgery on the patient to save the mother’s life and ensure the safety of the fetus. Fortunately, the patient is now fully conscious and the fetus is developing well,” said Master, Doctor Nguyen Nhat Tan.
It is known that Ms. Q.'s family is poor. Doctors at Vinmec Phu Quoc International General Hospital have mobilized benefactors to support Ms. Q. with 30 million VND and used the charity fund to support 50% of the hospital fees.
