In a statement on November 18, US President-elect Donald Trump said: "I am pleased to announce that former Wisconsin congressman Sean Duffy has been nominated to be Secretary of Transportation." According to President-elect Trump, Mr. Sean is "a great, beloved public servant". "He will prioritize excellence, competitiveness, and aesthetics when rebuilding America's highways, tunnels, bridges, and airports. He will ensure our ports and dams serve our economy without compromising national security. At the same time, he will make our skies safe again," the statement said. Mr. Trump added: "Sean will use his experience and relationships built over many years in Congress to maintain and rebuild the nation's infrastructure, while fulfilling his mission to usher in a golden age of travel focused on safety, efficiency, and innovation. Importantly, he will dramatically improve the travel experience for all Americans." Sean Duffy was an Ashland, Wisconsin, attorney from 2002 to 2008, before running for Congress. As a congressman from 2011 to 2019, he introduced a bill that would have expanded the power to impose tariffs, but it was not supported by Republicans at the time. He retired from Congress in 2019 to spend time with his family. Most recently, he was a Fox News host. He is the second Fox News host chosen by Trump for his incoming cabinet. Trump previously nominated Pete Hegseth, 44, a host of Fox & Friends , to be secretary of defense. Some sources said the president-elect is also considering Fox News host Larry Kudlow for a senior economic position, possibly Treasury secretary. However, Mr. Kudlow is said to have expressed his unwillingness to take on the job.
