Mr. Park: 'Vietnam's 2030 World Cup dream will not come true if...'

When asked to evaluate the next generation of Vietnamese players, Mr. Park mentioned the macro issue of Vietnamese football: “Actually, I haven’t thought about the next generation. VFF has just had a new leadership team and I know that VFF has proposed a plan for Vietnamese football to participate in the 2030 World Cup. The problem is that when we want to do something, we have to review the current situation, how the training system of Vietnamese football from the youth level up is being built. We have to achieve consistency and systematization from player training to many other important tasks.

I have to see how the current players are invested, if there is no system but a vision of the goal, it is just a wish and cannot be realized. We have to review whether the Vietnamese football system meets the standards, is it what we think, is it suitable for the 2030 World Cup goal. We can only achieve the goal when the system is stable. I think we have stabilized, but I think in the coming time, we need to sit down and see if the system is strong enough to achieve the upcoming goal."

Mr. Park said: “Over the past five years, I have talked to Vietnamese assistants many times. I said that I am not the owner of Vietnamese football, but you are the owner because I will leave, will say goodbye to Vietnamese football. For Vietnamese football to develop, you must think, must proactively express your thoughts. Our assistant coaches are too gentle, never daring to speak up to help Vietnamese football develop. I often get angry, saying that you are the owners, you must give your opinions. In addition, listening is also very important. I need to ask the press to pay attention to such issues.”

Once again, Mr. Park mentioned the issue of Vietnamese players going abroad: “The Korean Championship has ended, many teams have changed their personnel and are very interested in Vietnamese players, but in Vietnam there is a common denominator like this. The structure of clubs in Vietnam does not want to release players, so it is difficult for players to go abroad due to procedures. In Vietnam, there are not many players whose clubs are willing to go abroad to create revenue for the club. In Korean and Japanese football, if they want players to go, the clubs must open the door and create conditions for players to leave easily. I think we need to be flexible in this matter.”

Speaking about himself, Mr. Park shared: “After the end of my contract with VFF, from now until January 2023, I have no plans but to focus on my immediate work, which is the AFF Cup. I also have a representative company and they will outline my future. Staying in Vietnam or returning to Korea, I have no plans yet, but if there is a new path, it will be related to football."

'Social media communication is good too'

Coach Park Hang-seo revealed the reason for using social networks: "I am a person from the old era, I don't know how to use social networks or new means of communication. But as the head coach, I decided to use Facebook. I plan to use it after January next year, but people around me also said that it would be good if there was a channel to communicate with fans. When the team is training or entering the AFF Cup, I don't have much time to communicate, so I want to increase communication during this period. I am currently practicing using social networks, but I don't know how to use them, so what about copyright issues?".
