Joining MU in the summer of 2023 from Inter Milan for £43.8 million, Onana is expected to be a worthy replacement for David de Gea. |
In an interview with local Cameroonian media outlet Afrik-Foot , Onana said of his future: “I don’t know about my future at Manchester United. We’ll see.” Earlier, The Athletic reported that Onana was likely to stay at the club despite his high-profile errors since arriving at Old Trafford.
However, there is a big division within the Manchester United board over Onana's future. Many senior members of the "Red Devils" want to sell the Cameroon goalkeeper to bring in a new goalkeeper.
Amorim has defended Onana after a poor run of form this season, but the Portuguese tactician is said to be keen on replacing the former Inter Milan goalkeeper. Onana is under contract at Manchester United until June 2028, and his current market value has dropped to around £26m.
Manchester United are making clear moves to overhaul their squad after a disappointing season and one of manager Ruben Amorim's top priorities is to add a goalkeeper. According to Opta , Andre Onana has the worst clean sheet percentage and second-worst save percentage of any goalkeeper in United's history since 2003/04, of those who have played more than 900 minutes.
In that context, Man Utd are considering recruiting Andriy Lunin, Real Madrid's second goalkeeper, as a potential replacement.
