On August 9, information from Hoa Binh General Hospital (Phu Tho) said that the hospital's Emergency Resuscitation Department received a female student who finished 10th grade with brain damage due to chemical poisoning from e-cigarettes, a victim of passive smoking.
Previously, the Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Hoa Binh General Hospital received a patient with BTTL (Quyet Thang commune, Phu Tho ) admitted to the hospital with numbness and weakness in the right side of the body, intermittent stimulation, difficulty speaking, and altered perception.
According to Dr. Ta Huy Kien, Head of the Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Hoa Binh General Hospital, the results of the examination, MRI scan and medical history concluded that patient L. suffered brain damage due to chemical poisoning from electronic cigarettes.
This is a warning bell for young people, as the hospital has received many victims of such toxic smoke - electronic cigarettes.
Worryingly, since the beginning of 2025, Hoa Binh General Hospital has received 5 young patients with brain damage and chemical poisoning from e-cigarettes. In particular, there was a case of a child only 6 years old who also suffered brain damage. Information exploitation showed that the child's father and mother regularly used e-cigarettes.
Doctor Ta Huy Kien said that passive e-cigarette smokers are at high risk of poisoning, even higher than direct smokers. When the brain is damaged, it requires long-term treatment and is unlikely to fully recover. This is extremely dangerous for young people when the future is still ahead.
Doctors recommend that teenagers absolutely do not try e-cigarettes, even out of curiosity or following friends. Parents and schools need to closely manage and monitor their students and children; observe for signs of use (strange scents, use of USB or pen-like objects, changes in behavior...).
If you have ever used it and have any unusual neurological, cardiovascular or respiratory symptoms, you should immediately go to a specialized medical facility for timely treatment.
Therefore, families - schools - society need to join hands to prevent, detect early and intervene promptly. Build a smoke-free, vape-free school, family and community environment.
