According to Japanese broadcaster Fuji News Network , Mr. Kishida is looking to make the trip on March 20, before the general election in South Korea takes place on April 10.

If realized, this will be the second visit by the Japanese leader amid a significant warming of bilateral relations following Seoul's resolution on the issue of compensation for Korean victims of Japan's wartime forced labor.

Kishida's planned visit will coincide with Seoul hosting the opening games of the Major League Baseball season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, one of the teams participating in the season, has Japanese star player Shohei Ohtani. So the public is questioning the possibility of Mr. Yoon and Mr. Kishida watching the game together during their visit to Korea.

However, a South Korean presidential official said that “there are currently no plans” regarding Prime Minister Kishida's visit.

The two countries have resumed shuttle diplomacy or regular visits by leaders as bilateral relations improve.

Last year alone, South Korean President Yoon and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida met seven times, including two summits in each other's countries in March and May.
