Exactly 10 years have passed, but June 21, 2015 will always be an extremely memorable day for the group of authors Nguyen The Lam, Le Minh Toan, Nguyen Hung, Nguyen Soai, Bui Manh Linh and Nguyen Anh Tuan when they were awarded the A prize of the 2014 National Press Award by President Truong Tan Sang for their work "Innovation in the Party's leadership method - Viewed from streamlining the payroll apparatus in Quang Ninh". For the group of authors, the award is not only a joy and a great honor, but also extremely meaningful when it has conveyed the political message and innovative values of Quang Ninh province to the press and public nationwide.
Journalist Nguyen The Lam, Director of the Provincial Media Center, then Deputy Head of the News Department, Quang Ninh Radio and Television Station, shared: We started to have ideas for the work since the Standing Committee of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee issued Directive 25 on building and implementing the Project "Innovating methods, improving the leadership capacity and fighting strength of the Party, streamlining the apparatus and staff". At that time, the News Department of the Provincial Radio and Television Station was the main unit implementing information and propaganda work on the process of building and organizing the implementation of the Project. Determining that this is a big issue, having a strong impact and influence on the entire political system, receiving great attention from public opinion, and at the same time being a very new issue, with high theoretical content, so in order to propagate well, reporters must have a deep understanding of theory, stick closely to practice to have convincing and easy-to-understand analysis and arguments. To have a complete work, with high generality, ideological value, reflecting fully and deeply on the implementation of the project requires a process of accumulating theoretical knowledge and serious practical survey. The process of organizing propaganda to carry out political tasks in news bulletins is an opportunity for us to deeply understand the problem.
During the 10 months from the time of the idea and the completion of the work, we also encountered many difficulties and obstacles. First of all, the implementation of the project affected many cadres and civil servants, so when mentioning the unreasonable, overlapping, and cumbersome aspects of the organizational apparatus, we often did not receive cooperation and it was very difficult to film. In theory, Project 25 is a very large and new project, and Quang Ninh is one of the pioneering localities in the country, with many contents that have not yet been implemented in practice. However, fortunately, we always received valuable support and assistance from provincial, department, and local leaders to be able to deeply and thoroughly understand the issue.
“Through the implementation of this work, we have also learned many valuable lessons. We must know how to exploit topics and themes about the renovation process, especially pioneering breakthroughs that have influence and spread widely on a national scale. In the process of implementing the work, we need to be extremely determined and make every effort to carry it out to the end, and must have a deep understanding of the problem, especially with highly theoretical issues. We always keep in mind: The reality of renovation, the determination to innovate, and the pioneering efforts of Quang Ninh are the source of creativity and achievements of those working in the Mining Region newspaper” - Journalist Nguyen The Lam shared more.
Passionate about documentaries, journalism has given journalist and director Le Tung Bac (member of the Vietnam Cinema Association) many opportunities to gain practical experience at home and abroad. Before returning to Quang Ninh, director Tung Bac was a collaborator of the People's Police Cinema (Ministry of Public Security) and the Documentary Film Subcommittee (Vietnam Television). Together with director Tran Minh Dai, he won the A prize at the 2001 National Press Award (the predecessor of the National Press Award) with the documentary "Nobody is Anonymous".
Returning to his hometown of Quang Ninh, working for the provincial Radio and Television Station and the Quang Ninh Provincial Media Center, for nearly 20 years, he and his colleagues have continued to produce many impressive documentaries, reaching out to television viewers nationwide. During his journalism career, he has won many medals, gold and silver awards at National Television Festivals and awards from the Vietnam Cinema Association. In particular, the documentary "Ha Long Wonders" directed by Tung Bac, filmed by Tuan Hung - Xuan Hoang, won Second Prize at the 6th FICTS - Vietnam International Film, Television, Sports and Tourism Festival in 2012.
The film “Ha Long Wonders” makes a strong impression with its natural, simple yet captivating storytelling. The film has many beautiful, vivid scenes, concise commentary, and delicate sound effects, taking viewers from one surprise to another until the end of the film. The film not only has aesthetic value, but also contains valuable scientific information, profound cultural messages, honoring the world natural heritage of Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh, Vietnam.
Director Tung Bac shared: The documentary "Ha Long Wonders" is 30 minutes long, but the production process lasted for many years, because the terrain of Ha Long Bay is extremely vast, the production budget is limited, and the equipment is lacking. We organized the filming in small batches, and there was a trip that lasted only a few days before the crew had to "disband" because we could not afford the costs. But then we were determined to pursue this topic with the "guerrilla" tactic of catching the enemy with bare hands, using the short term to support the long term, and most importantly, the brothers in the crew always maintained their enthusiasm, no one was discouraged. We made the most of all relationships and personal reputations so that the crew could continue to roam and penetrate everywhere from the sea of Cat Ba Island (Hai Phong) to the coastal areas and remote islands of the Northeast sea. On some trips, the crew had to mobilize 4-5 cameramen, including logistics from stockpiling food and medicine to be able to stay at sea for a long time. And there were many times when we had to close the camera because of prolonged stormy weather, or when the agency requested to withdraw people to serve an urgent topic or live program. But for us, we had to adapt to any situation or mood, raining like rain, sunny like sunshine, thanks to that, the images appearing in the film were multi-faceted, with moments of the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, day and night, fog, sunshine, storms, mysterious stillness, sparkling, brilliant.
Documentary is considered the most “hard” genre in television journalism. Some people say that making a documentary requires knowing how to “make it from the material”. Whether it is a documentary or a feature film, this format requires the person doing the work to be well-trained, have deep expertise, and real talent. Because this is a genre with a strong cinematic character, and the production technology must be advanced, time-consuming, laborious, and costly, requiring meticulousness in every stage, from pre-production to post-production. But for director Tung Bac and his colleagues, most of them are self-taught, self-taught, and they invest in additional specialized equipment necessary for film production. For the film “Ha Long Wonders”, his biggest hope is not an award because “I make films because of my passion for the profession and always want to dedicate decent works to the audience. Because they are the ones who classify, evaluate, and even decide the survival of each work, as well as the author - the one who gave birth to it”.
With a serious working spirit, passion for the profession and a desire to improve, the team of journalists in Quang Ninh always strives to overcome difficulties and persistently dedicate themselves. After 6 years of establishment, the Quang Ninh Provincial Media Center has continuously grown, gradually affirming its position as the province's main, multimedia, modern press agency. The team of journalists at the Center always keeps the "fire" of the profession, diligently, passionately and creatively, not only creating many proud achievements, but also contributing to enhancing the reputation, position and influence of the Provincial Media Center on the national press map.
In the past 6 years, the Center has won 1 A prize of the National Press Award; 8 B prizes; 6 C prizes (including the National Press Awards, the National Golden Hammer and Sickle Awards, the Dien Hong Awards, etc.); 26 Gold, Silver, Bronze prizes and certificates of merit at the National Radio and Television Festivals. Among them, journalists Bui Thi Thu Huong, Bui Thi Thuy Linh, Nguyen Thi Thu, Nguyen Thu Giang, Vu Thi Dung, Nguyen Thanh Hoa, Vu Thi Bich Hanh, Le Lan, Nguyen Thi Thanh Trang, Ta Thi Ngoan, etc. have continuously participated in the press awards of the central, ministerial and sectoral levels for many years and have achieved high results in all types of journalism. These successes are not only the pride of each individual, but also become a source of motivation, encouragement, "fire" for the profession, inspiration for the team of journalists of the Provincial Media Center in particular and Quang Ninh in general to continue to be passionate, spread love and dedication to the profession.
The work "Controlling the power of officials: Practice from the local level" in the radio reportage genre with 3 episodes by the group of authors Bui Thi Thu Huong, Bui Thi Thuy Linh, Nguyen Thi Thanh Trang, Ta Thi Ngoan, Nguyen Thanh Tu has excellently won the A prize of the National Press Award in 2022, which is a clear demonstration of the professional capacity, professional courage and dedication of the team of journalists at the Provincial Media Center.
The work was born at a time when Party committees from the central to local levels were giving strong directions to clean up the apparatus and increase people's trust. With authentic data, solid arguments, and interviews with the "right people, right roles" to prove the arguments and deepen the issue, the work was presented vividly and attractively, meeting the expectations of public opinion. Immediately after the first episode of the work was broadcast, there were many responses from listeners about the work and the production team.
Sharing about the process of making the work, journalist Bui Thi Thu Huong, Deputy Director of the Quang Ninh Provincial Media Center, said: From the time we discovered the topic, researched, and organized the production of this series of radio reports, for us, it was a process of concentrated labor, investing effort and intelligence seriously in each stage of selecting interviewees, explaining each issue and each detail. In Quang Ninh, there have been a number of key officials, former key officials in localities who have been disciplined, even caught up in legal trouble due to violations in the process of performing their duties, due to abuse of power, causing pain and discontent in society. We thought about how to orient public opinion from such incidents and what are the effective solutions? These questions have urged the team to make a long-term report on this issue.
During the production of the work, because it involved the issue of disciplining many cadres and party members from the province to the localities in the province, the crew encountered many difficulties in contacting the characters for interviews. Many characters initially agreed to answer but then refused, forcing the crew to continuously discuss, find and contact other characters to suit the content of the work. The group contacted and visited many localities and collected over 50 interviews with different characters. Among them, there were many characters living and working in many remote localities in the province such as the border city of Mong Cai, the mountainous district of Tien Yen or the island district of Co To, etc., making the completion of the interview content time-consuming and laborious.
In the development trend of modern journalism, sometimes we think that some types of newspapers such as print newspapers and radio have been forgotten, but in fact, each type of journalism has its own readers and listeners. Radio listeners today may be narrower than before, but the quality is more refined. This group of listeners still trusts, expects and looks forward to information from this very special type. And when the public pays attention, welcomes, and honors them with noble awards, for journalists, it is a worthy result for their dedication and devotion to the profession and work they have chosen and pursued. The work “Controlling the power of cadres: Practice from the local level” is the same, not only reflecting the current situation but also recommending short-term and long-term solutions to both control and support cadres to “stand firm” against the temptations of power and material things, thereby contributing to the effective implementation of Party building and rectification work at the local level.
And more than the awards, the most valuable thing is the spirit of silent dedication, passion and responsibility of each Quang Ninh journalist. They still work hard every day with their pens, living fully with their professional ideals, so that each work becomes a bridge between the Party's will and the people's heart, to be worthy of the role of a soldier on the Party's ideological and cultural front, worthy of the people's trust and love.
