Farmers' billion-dollar initiatives

Dong Nai has a cultivated area of ​​over 308 thousand hectares/year. Of which, annual crops have an area of ​​over 140.86 thousand hectares, perennial crops are about 168.45 thousand hectares. Although it is an industrial province, the agricultural sector is always prioritized for development by Dong Nai. Therefore, the province is always in the top of the country in applying science and technology to agricultural production for high productivity and quality. This is one of the important factors that helps Dong Nai become one of the three leading provinces in the country in building new rural areas, advanced new rural areas, and model new rural areas.

With an industrial mindset, many Dong Nai farmers have researched and learned from domestic and foreign experiences to apply modern technologies to livestock and crop production. In addition, the Provincial Farmers' Association, the Department of Agriculture and Environment, and the Department of Science and Technology have also had many programs to support farmers in promoting their initiatives through many movements and competitions such as: Innovative Start-ups, Farmers' Technical Innovation, etc. From practical experience, the spirit of learning, and support from departments and branches, some Dong Nai farmers have researched and developed machines and methods to serve agricultural production, bringing high economic efficiency. Some farmers have found ways to graft perennial crops such as coffee, durian, avocado, mango, etc. to produce fruit earlier than traditional planting methods, while at the same time producing higher productivity and quality. In pig, chicken, and aquaculture farming, farmers have researched and found safe production solutions, reducing costs of materials and labor, while producing higher productivity. Therefore, the profits farmers get also increase significantly.

The initiatives of Dong Nai farmers have been widely replicated in and outside the province, bringing tens of billions of VND each year to gardeners. In particular, in the past 5 years, rural labor has become increasingly scarce, with the price of 250-300 thousand VND/worker/day, but sometimes it is very difficult to find during peak production seasons. Therefore, the use of modern machinery by "farmer scientists" in agricultural production stages has helped many gardeners reduce the pressure of labor shortage, reduce production costs, and plant crops and care in a timely manner.

Currently, with many types of crops such as rice, corn, vegetables, perennial industrial crops, fruit trees, Dong Nai farmers have applied many types of machinery in the production and harvesting stages. Therefore, one worker can plant and take care of several hectares of crops. During the production process, some farmers constantly research, invent, and improve many types of machinery and equipment to apply to livestock and crop farming, and profits are constantly increasing. Some farmers have earned from 1-2 billion VND/hectare/year.
