On the morning of August 30, at Co Tan flower garden, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Me, 75 years old, a veteran from Thanh Hoa to Hanoi, had tears in her eyes when asked about her feelings when witnessing the parade rehearsal and marching, saying: "I find peace so wonderful."

Mrs. Me added that, looking at the young soldiers at the parade, she felt like she saw a part of her youth again, especially the days when she joined the militia. According to her, at that time she was only 18, 20 years old, belonging to the Sam Son guerrilla team, unit C5, Battalion 5, Group 57. She participated in the fight in 1971 and 1972. "Life and fighting at that time were extremely difficult, we had to eat and sleep right at the fighting position, taking turns to guard at night," Mrs. Me said.

Mrs. Me's family happily watched the parade.

Mrs. Me was moved and proud: “My whole family, 5 children, are here. When witnessing these moments, in a peaceful country, I feel like my past hardships have been duly compensated.

Accompanying Mrs. Me was her grandson Tran Tuan Khang, 9 years old this year, currently a student at Trung Son 1 Primary School (Thanh Hoa). Khang said that he had been to Hanoi many times with his parents, but this was the first time he had seen the whole parade. He admired the soldiers in the parade, they looked very solemn and walked in perfect harmony. Not only was Khang excited, but every time the parade passed by, Khang as well as many children standing in Co Tan flower garden cheered, clapped their hands in joy and waved flags continuously because of what was happening right before their eyes.

After watching the rehearsal, many people did not go home immediately, but stayed to rest and visit tourist attractions in Hanoi.

Coming from Phu Tho, Ms. Ngo Thi Toan in Hoa Binh ward, Phu Tho province, went to Hanoi with 5 neighbors from noon yesterday (August 29). As soon as she arrived, she sat on Tran Phu street until this morning. “I stayed outside all night, 8 times I had to wear a raincoat. It was raining so hard but we were still happy. We prepared dry food, bread and water so no one was hungry or tired. Watching the parades and marching groups go by was so beautiful, so satisfying. The rehearsal was over but we still stayed to enjoy the festival atmosphere,” Ms. Toan shared.

Even though we had to wait all night, everyone was excited and happy.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hai, Nong Cong commune, Thanh Hoa province, carried his two children on a motorbike from his hometown to Hanoi. After a sleepless night with everyone on the sidewalk of Tran Phu intersection, he and his children finally got to admire the parades.

“My children like the images of the Army and Police soldiers the most. They are all happy and not tired at all. Now, I plan to take them to some tourist attractions in Hanoi. We may return to Thanh Hoa tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, depending on whether the weather is favorable or not,” said Mr. Toan.
