Xoe dance is a unique cultural activity, a popular dance in the Thai community in the Northwest. Xoe dance is also known as “Xe kham khen” (hand-held dance). Xoe dance represents solidarity, friendliness and closeness, is a valuable cultural heritage of the Thai people with sustainable vitality over many years.

Phan Huy Thiep's work submitted to the Photo and Video Contest "Happy Vietnam", organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications , the photo album "Xoe dances of the Thai people in Ban But", affirms that Xoe dance is a unique cultural feature of the Thai ethnic group in Ban But - Quan Hoa.

Originating from movements associated with daily labor and production such as: planting rice, harvesting rice, winnowing rice, pounding rice... Combined with graceful and colorful costumes, the dances are extremely beautiful and unique.

The most prominent of the Thai xoè dances is the “Kham khen” (holding hands) xoè dance, which is a basic xoè dance in the folk dance art of the Thai people, formed during the early labor process, with the meaning of expressing community cohesion, whenever there is joy, people dance together and when facing difficulties and hardships, they still hold hands tightly to overcome together. Thai people believe that xoè dance must be fun, the more people there are, the more fun it is, the more fun it is, the more flowers and fruits the trees will bear, and the crops will be bountiful. Xoe dance is a symbol of love of the Thai people, from love for hard-working life to love between couples, Thai people often organize Xoe dance in spring festivals, seasonal festivals and wedding festivals. There are many types of xoe dance, but perhaps the earliest and longest-lasting is the xoe voong (xoe voong). After days of hard work in the fields, the bustling atmosphere of xoe dance makes people forget their daily fatigue. Each movement, each walking and standing posture, and the way the team forms a formation are all different levels and nuances that the xoe dance brings./.
