In recent years, the situation of drug crime activities in Che Tao commune has been complicated due to the large area, many trails through the forest, and bordering several localities (Son La, Lai Chau ), causing obstacles in the management of the movement of drug-related criminals.
The number of subjects with criminal records related to drugs; the number of addicts and illegal drug users in the area is still high, while the management force is thin, so there are many difficulties in managing, supervising and educating subjects.
Lieutenant Colonel Mua A Vang, Chief of Che Tao Commune Police, said: Before 2020, the situation of social evils, especially drug-related crimes in the commune, was quite complicated, drug-related crimes tended to increase, and the number of drug addicts was high.

Furthermore, in the process of preventing and combating this type of crime, Che Tao commune encountered many difficulties because drug-related crimes were mainly drug addicts who went to neighboring provinces to buy drugs in small quantities and brought them back to their locality to both use and sell for profit. Some subjects colluded with each other to form groups, closed within their families and clans, and only sold drugs to a few drug users.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Mua A Vang, the methods and tricks of drug criminals are increasingly sophisticated, cunning, reckless, and ready to fight back against authorities when discovered and arrested. In addition, the subjects take advantage of mountainous terrain, complex traffic, and many trails through forests bordering other localities to form retail points and illegally transport drugs.
In addition, the masses participating in preventing and fighting drug-related crimes also face obstacles due to family and clan relationships, limited knowledge, or people fear revenge and intimidation from drug-related criminals, so they do not dare to report or denounce to the police when they discover drug-related violations.

From the above difficulties, under the direct direction of the Provincial Police, Che Tao commune has resolutely directed agencies, departments, branches, organizations, especially the commune police force to strictly implement the plan of the Commune People's Committee on building a "Drug-free village" in the area.
In particular, the Che Tao Commune Police force always strives to stay close to the area, promoting its role as a reliable support for the people; maintaining a stable security and order situation, while fighting, destroying, and handling many cases and subjects related to drug-related crimes; establishing management records, educating and reforming many errant subjects in order to gradually transform and clean up the area, saying "no" to drugs.
Along with that, Che Tao commune determined that the fight against drug crimes must be placed directly under the leadership of the Party, the management and administration of authorities at all levels; promoting the combined strength of the entire political system, the spirit of voluntary participation of unions, social organizations and the entire population. In which, the police force plays the core and pioneer role, on the basis of proactively doing a good job of advising, proposing, guiding, planning to implement preventive measures, directly fighting against crimes and subjects related to drugs.

With the motto of "going to every alley, knocking on every door", Che Tao commune regularly organizes and effectively implements social prevention work by strengthening propaganda and education, raising awareness among the people, and alerting them to the harmful effects and dangers of drugs, especially high-risk groups such as teenagers and people who have committed drug-related violations...
Mr. Sung A Khua, a prestigious person in Pu Va village, shared: "I often work with the village officials to promote propaganda and explain to the people about the harmful effects of drugs... so the security and order of the village are always maintained."
With synchronous solutions, close to the actual situation of the locality, up to now, Che Tao Commune Police have put 20 drug addicts under management; established 12 records and forced 11 drug addicts to be sent to compulsory drug rehabilitation facilities. It is worth mentioning that in the first 6 months of 2025, there were no incidents or subjects related to drug crimes in the commune; for many consecutive years, there has been no re-planting of opium poppies in the area, contributing to maintaining political stability and social order and safety.
