The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) confirmed that on March 24, the capital Tokyo officially entered the brilliant cherry blossom season when the first flowers of the "Somei Yoshino" variety bloomed at Yasukuni Shrine, marking the beginning of the most anticipated festival season of the year.

The Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms at Yasukuni Shrine - chosen as the standard for determining when the flowers bloom in the capital - have bloomed with at least six flowers, meeting the criteria for declaring the cherry blossom season has begun.

This is in line with the average of previous years and five days earlier than last year, when unusually cold weather delayed the flowering season, according to the JMA.

Private weather service company Weathernews Inc. forecasts that cherry blossoms in western and eastern Japan will begin blooming this month. The flowers are expected to be in full bloom in northeastern Japan from early to mid-April and in Hokkaido in late April.

Cherry blossoms, or " sakura ," are Japan's most beloved flower and typically bloom in late March to early April, just in time for the country to welcome the new school and business year.

The time when a cherry blossom tree is in full bloom will last about 2 weeks, from when the first flower bud opens until the last petals fall.

This is not only an opportunity for locals and tourists to admire the pristine beauty of cherry blossoms, but also a time for them to enjoy the fresh spring air and participate in traditional festivals./.
