Earthen wall house - cultural heritage of Mong people in Ha Giang

The rammed earth houses with traditional architecture are considered a cultural feature of the Mong people in the Rocky Plateau in Ha Giang.

According to their concept, the traditional rammed earth house is the measure of wealth of each family, each clan, this is also the basis to determine which Mong people have lived the longest in the area. The rammed earth house means the wall of the house is compacted with soil, so that the soil can compact into a wall, people call it a rammed earth house.

The rammed earth house has a roof covered with yin and yang roofing, surrounded by pine wood from the rocky plateau, the walls are made of earth, people use available surrounding materials to build the house. All stages to complete the rammed earth house are done by hand, without any machinery.

The vast nature, rugged terrain, and harsh climate of the rocky plateau have a profound influence on the architecture of Mong houses here. The rammed earth houses are warm in winter and cool in summer.
