Large virtual ratio affects benchmarks
At this point, many universities have a relatively specific picture of their school's admissions "picture" to predict relatively accurate admission scores. However, for some schools with a large virtual ratio, they still have to wait for the final virtual filtering tomorrow afternoon.
It is known that this year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Hutech) has more than 30,000 candidates registered on the system of the Ministry of Education and Training with a total number of registered wishes of more than 41,500.
"According to this year's regulations, universities do not conduct early admissions, so candidates tend to register more admission wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training's system to ensure the possibility of being admitted, so the number of virtual wishes tends to increase. For Hutech, the majors with the largest number of wishes are information technology, automotive engineering technology, electric car technology, multimedia communications, graphic design, marketing, business administration, English language...", shared Master Nguyen Thi Xuan Dung, Director of the Communication Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.
Similarly, the number of applications to Saigon International University (SIU) this year has also increased compared to last year, but the proportion of applications with 4 or more accounts for a large number. Currently, the school predicts that the virtual rate will also be high.
Master Cao Quang Tu, Director of Admissions of the school, commented: "Partly, candidates want to feel secure because this year's university admissions have many changes, partly because of the reduced fees. After 3 official virtual filtering rounds according to the process of the Ministry of Education and Training, SIU believes that it is possible to expect that the benchmark scores will not fluctuate much. The majors with high enrollment rates at the school are business administration, psychology and information technology."
Ms. Truong Thi Ngoc Bich, Director of the Information and Communication Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UEF), said that the number of applications to the school was about 30,000, but after filtering out fake applications, there are currently about 7,000 left.
"This year the virtual rate is higher than in 2024. At UEF, the expected benchmark score is about 1 point higher than the minimum admission score," Master Bich informed.
Dr. Mai Duc Toan, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Gia Dinh University, also said that the number of virtual candidates is quite large. Specifically, there are about 15,000 wishes to enter the school, but after filtering virtual candidates, there are only about 3,200 left. The expected standard score is from 15-17, with the standard score for the maxillofacial major being 20.5.
Representatives of some other non-public schools said that the number of applications this year not only decreased compared to last year but also had a high virtual rate, so the standard score would be equal to the floor score and additional admissions would have to be considered.
Public schools also have high virtual rates.
Sharing about the expected benchmark scores at this "close" time, Master Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that this year the number of applications to the school is 178,294.
However, there are only 13,308 first choices, 16,359 second choices, and nearly 150,000 third, fourth, fifth, and sixth choices left. Of which, more than 41,000 candidates registered for 10 or more choices.
"The number of applications to the school this year has increased 2.5 times compared to 2024, but the virtual rate is also very large. The reason is that this year there is no more early admission, candidates are no longer conditionally admitted, so they have to register many applications to be sure," said Master Son.

According to Mr. Son, through data, for economic majors, candidates often register their first choice at schools such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Foreign Trade University; for engineering and technology majors, their first choice is often Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology...
Because of the large number of virtual students, Master Son said that determining the benchmark score will depend on the schools that candidates register for their first and second choices. "However, with this situation, it can be predicted that the school's benchmark score will not change much compared to 2024. The highest benchmark score is about 25-25 points, which may fall into the fields of marketing, logistics and supply chain management. The lowest score is about 16-17 points, which falls into the fields of environment, materials technology...", Master Son predicted.
Master Cu Xuan Tien, Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department of the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University), also said that this year the total number of candidates applying to the school increased by 1.7 times, the total number of wishes increased by 3 times, and the number of candidates with international English certificates increased by 3.7 times compared to 2024.
"However, the number of virtual candidates this year is higher than last year because each student registered for many wishes, while last year, students knew they were admitted early so many of them only registered for 1 or 2 wishes. At the school, the majors that attract many candidates include e-commerce, international business, international economics, marketing, economic law, and banking and finance," Master Tien informed.
According to Master Tien, the school's minimum score is 19, but at this point it is predicted that no major will have a standard score equal to the minimum score.
