Related case Mass hospitalization after attending a funeral in Hue , The leader of Hue Central Hospital, branch 2, said that 10 more people (aged 35 to 76) had just been transferred to the emergency room, bringing the total number of suspected food poisoning cases after eating a death anniversary meal in Phong Dinh ward to 19.
All are being treated at the Emergency Department and the Department of Tropical Diseases with a diagnosis of acute gastroenteritis.
Faced with the increasing number of cases, Hue Central Hospital has mobilized additional staff to assist in triage and monitoring to provide the best treatment for patients. The Hue City Department of Health has also sent a working group to coordinate with the hospital to grasp the situation, exploit epidemiology and verify related information.
According to the Department of Health, the patients all attended a memorial meal at 11am on July 19 at My Xuyen residential group (Phong Dinh ward, Hue city). The menu included jellyfish salad, shrimp, steamed squid, grilled chicken, grouper hotpot and yogurt. Some people had another meal at around 6pm the same day after the food was reheated.
The feast had 6 trays, attended by about 50 people. Most of the patients ate all the dishes in the meal. Symptoms such as fever, abdominal cramps, loose stools, vomiting... appeared after about 15 hours, from 2am to 5am on July 20.
On the morning of July 20, Hue Central Hospital, branch 2, received 9 patients (both male and female, aged 54 to 84) for emergency treatment, suspected of food poisoning. All of them resided in Phong Dinh ward and attended a local death anniversary on July 19. The dishes were prepared by X.D. restaurant (located in Phong Dinh ward).
The earliest patient was admitted to the hospital at 5:35 am, the latest at around 9:05 am. After examination, doctors diagnosed these 9 patients with acute gastroenteritis due to food poisoning. The most severe case was Ms. NTL (born in 1941) who suffered from septic shock.
