August 18: The campaign to support the Cuban people received 332.4 billion VND

On August 18, the Vietnam Red Cross Society announced that as of 6 p.m. the same day, the campaign to support the Cuban people had received more than 1.69 million contributions totaling VND332.4 billion. Organizations, unions, and people in the country and overseas Vietnamese actively responded, spreading the solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba.

Also on August 18, Mr. Vu Thanh Luu, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society , received support for the Cuban people from organizations, social groups and volunteer groups.

According to the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the "Repaying gratitude to the three regions" group and the Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims of Hoang Mai District (old) donated 216 million VND; the Vietnam Association of the Elderly donated 69 million VND.

Ms. Do Thi Thu Dung, representative of the "Repaying gratitude to the three regions" group, said: "When we heard about the program calling for support for the Cuban people, we mobilized members to join hands to contribute. The gift is not large but it is a heart of sharing, a desire to accompany Cuban friends in difficult times". The group was established 6 years ago, currently has more than 1,000 members from North to South, operating with the spirit of "repaying gratitude - repaying gratitude - sharing" and has accompanied many charity programs.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Thanh Luu respectfully thanked the noble gesture of the organizations and unions and affirmed that this valuable resource will be transferred by the Association to the Cuban people in a timely manner, to the right target, and for the right purpose.

In recent days, the campaign to support the Cuban people has received strong support from people in the country and overseas Vietnamese. On social networks, the movement of "collecting a group/fanpage operation fee of 10,000 VND/year" has spread widely as a creative way to raise funds. Many people share money transfer receipts, confirm their support, and in some cases, transfer money multiple times to... "continue paying the fee".

Touched by the warm sentiments of the Vietnamese people, on the same day, on the official Facebook page of the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes shared a 13-minute post. He said: "In front of this extremely convincing demonstration of solidarity and friendship, I can only say: Thank you Vietnam! Thank you very much! The expressions of attachment, admiration, and genuine solidarity that thousands of Vietnamese people have shown in the campaign to celebrate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries have exceeded all of our expectations."

The Ambassador emphasized that what impressed him was not only the amount of money raised to reach the target in a short time, but also the great spiritual support. "This will be an example for the relationship between Vietnam and Cuba as well as for international relations between countries," he said.
