“Western countries are trying to deprive Russia of access to the Baltic Sea and turn it into NATO’s internal sea,” said Nikolay Patrushev, former secretary of the Security Council and aide to the Russian president in charge of national maritime policies.

Speaking in an interview with Izvestia newspaper, he said Western countries are using new NATO members such as Sweden and Finland to achieve this goal.

“In addition, Western countries are actively implementing a strategy to limit Russia in the Black Sea, where NATO members are preparing to increase their presence in violation of the Montreux Convention,” Patrushev added.

According to Mr. Patrushev, to increase influence around the world , the US and its allies either ignore or try to review other international agreements.
