Newcastle 'detonates' the most expensive blockbuster in history

According to The Athletic , Daily Mail and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano , the negotiations between the two sides have been completed. The deal has a total cost of up to 80 million euros, including a 75 million euro transfer fee and 5 million euro in additional fees, thereby making Woltemade the most expensive new player in the history of the North East English club.

Daily Mail described this as a “shocking deal” as Newcastle beat many rivals to sign this promising young player.

The North East club are forced to plan for attacking reinforcements after Callum Wilson left on a free transfer, while their number one striker, Alexander Isak – is currently refusing to play due to his desire to move to Liverpool.

Woltemade, 23, has emerged as one of the most promising young strikers in Europe. He has just had an impressive Euro U21 campaign with the German national team and followed it up with an explosive performance in the 2024/25 Bundesliga season. For Stuttgart, the 1.98m striker has scored 12 goals in 28 appearances, thereby catching the attention of a series of big clubs, including Bayern Munich.

If successful with Woltemade, Newcastle will not only solve the problem of the attack line before the new season, but also own a young striker with great potential to build a long-term future. As for Isak, the club at St James' Park announced that they will only let him leave if they receive the full 150 million euro transfer fee. Currently, Liverpool is offering 140 million for the player born in 1998.
