In an interview with the British newspaper The Times , Mr. Stoltenberg reiterated that Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly declared a “red line” that, if crossed, would escalate tensions.

NATO's outgoing secretary general has backed member states agreeing to let Ukraine use long-range missiles to strike deep into Russian territory, stressing that if this happens, it will not drag the military alliance into conflict with Moscow.

The NATO chief also noted that any specific decision on the issue must be made by each ally, as each member country has different policies.

A day earlier, President Putin said that Kiev could not launch strikes deep into Russian territory without information from European and American satellites. Therefore, according to him, the issue is not the permission to use Western missiles, but the direct involvement of NATO countries in the conflict.

Regarding the conflict, on the same day, US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield said that Washington had learned of the "victory plan" proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to Ms. Thomas-Greenfield, this plan presents a clear strategy, which the US side believes is realistic, stating: “We believe he has presented a strategy and a plan that is feasible.”

The plan is one of the key conditions for further discussions on the possibility of supplying Kiev with long-range missiles that could be used to strike Russian territory. The United States has repeatedly stated that before approving such actions, it must be confident that the Ukrainian command has a clear strategy for achieving its military goals.

Washington has previously expressed concern that the conflict could escalate if Ukraine begins using long-range weapons to strike deep into Russian territory.
