The general goal by 2030 is that Dien Bien will become a fairly developed province in the midland and mountainous region of the North.

In particular, developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector of Dien Bien, based on three main pillars: historical and cultural tourism; eco-tourism, exploring natural landscapes; resort tourism, entertainment, health care. By 2030, tourism is expected to contribute over 10% of the province's GRDP. By 2050, Dien Bien will be a national cultural - historical - ecological tourism center aiming for international standards, strongly developing trade services and a stable and solid border area.
