The International Chemistry Project Olympiad has been held for students from grades 8 to 11 at the Faculty of Chemistry, Moscow State University since 2019. This year, the exam attracted about 2,500 participants.

Candidates go through two rounds: Theoretical round (qualifying round, held locally) and practical round (final round).

In the theoretical round, candidates will do some theoretical exercises related to inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry and organic chemistry. Candidates with good results will participate in the practical exam.

In the practical part, each candidate is required to propose an optimal solution to a specific problem. After reporting to the jury, the candidate will carry out the project in the laboratory for two sessions, each lasting 4 hours, to turn the project into reality. The candidate is only allowed to use chemicals in the list provided by the organizers.

This is the second time Vietnam has sent students to the International Chemistry Project Olympiad. Last year, Vietnam won one gold medal and one bronze medal. This achievement also helped the national team receive the best team trophy from the organizing committee.
