Water levels on Cau and Nang rivers are on the rise.

BBK - According to information from the Bac Kan Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, the water level on the Cau and Nang rivers is currently increasing, the flood warning level is at level 1 (BĐ1) approximately level 2.

The water level of Nam Cat Lake ( Bac Kan City) is on an upward trend.

It is forecasted that from now until June 22, a flood may occur on the Cau River and some other rivers and streams in the province. The flood level will range from 1.5m to 3m, and in some places it may be over 4m.

During this flood, water levels measured at some stations reached the following levels:

  • In Bac Kan city : approximately level 1 (132.00m);
  • At Gieng Waterfall : approximately level 2 (57.50m);
  • In Cho Moi district : approximately level 1 (56.00m);
  • On Nang River, at Ba Be town : at level above BĐ1 to approximately BĐ2 (154.50m - 155.50m).

Currently, the warning level of flood disaster risk in the province is determined at Level 1, the lowest on a three-level warning scale.

According to a representative of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, the dams are still in the water storage phase. The province has not announced any flood discharge on the Cau River, however, the authorities are still closely monitoring the weather and flood developments. At the same time, they are directing the reservoir operators to regularly inspect and coordinate with the locality to proactively develop operational plans to ensure the safety of the dam system and downstream areas.

Along with that, people living along rivers and streams, especially in areas at risk of flooding and landslides, need to be vigilant, proactively monitor weather reports and warnings from authorities to promptly respond and limit damage to people and property.

Information you need to know about flood warning levels:

  • Level 1 Alert (BĐ1): River and stream water levels are rising, starting to cause light flooding in low-lying areas. Risk of impact to some areas, but not serious.
  • Level 2 Alert (BĐ2): Floods will rise higher, causing widespread flooding, especially in plains without dykes. There is a high risk of landslides on dykes, river banks, and bridges.
  • Level 3 warning (BĐ3): The most dangerous flood level, causing serious flooding, directly threatening people's lives, property, and daily life and production.
