At that very moment, there were works of art that were born, leaving a resounding mark and becoming historical witnesses that still have the power to move people today.

During the nation’s resistance war, music was always a quick voice and closely followed all historical events. Right on the day of the August Revolution’s success, when the red flag with yellow star covered the streets, amidst the crowd’s enthusiastic spirit, a special song was born and quickly became the musical “news” of the entire nation, that was the song “August Nineteen” by musician Xuan Oanh.

On the day of the General Uprising in Hanoi , musician Xuan Oanh was only in his early twenties, carrying within him the boiling enthusiasm of someone witnessing the moment the nation rose up to seize power.

Talking about the birth of the song "August Nineteen", musician Xuan Oanh once shared: At 3-4 am on August 19, groups of people from all over flocked to the city center. He and his comrades from the south of Hanoi marched straight to the Opera House Square in a sea of people, excited, bustling, and filled with revolutionary spirit. Everyone held flags and banners, shouting slogans as they walked.

Being immersed in that revolutionary atmosphere, witnessing the sacred and heroic moments of the country, the 23-year-old Xuan Oanh could not contain his emotions and musical ideas and lyrics popped into his head. He thought of the first two lines "All Vietnamese people stand up to contribute one day. Swear to give their blood and bones to fight for the future...", and so on, he followed the group and thought of the following lines.

As soon as he composed a line, he sang it out loud for everyone to sing along. By the time he reached the Opera House Square, the song was completed. A few days later, the song was recorded by the Voice of Vietnam and broadcast continuously.

Immediately, the song spread widely among the people. August 19 was like a declaration of victory, informing everyone that the country had turned a new page.

Talking about the popularity of the song at that time, Meritorious Artist Ngo Van Dam said: That year, I was only 16 years old. That song was sung everywhere, from the streets, riverbanks to the fields in the harvest season. The song was widely popular among all classes and ages, especially the youth. The song contributed greatly to encouraging the people's spirit. The momentum that the song brought was wonderful.

Not only a musical work, August 19 is also a historical text in melody, where listeners can clearly feel the hurried footsteps, joyful cheers and strong belief in the future of the country. After 80 years, the song still retains its vitality.

Every time the August Revolution is celebrated, those heroic notes resound, bringing listeners back to the autumn of 1945, the autumn of complete joy and the aspiration for independence and freedom. If music brings listeners into the rhythm of the revolutionary autumn, photography brings true images of the historical moment.

Among the bustling crowd that day, there was photographer Vu Nang An. At that time, a photographer in Hanoi, he was present at the hottest spots of the General Uprising, enjoying the boiling atmosphere of history with the people of the capital. With the passion of a photography lover, he captured many precious moments.

Among the series of photos at that time, the most prominent were The Capture of the Imperial Envoy's Palace and The General Uprising Rally at the Opera House Square. These two works have gone down in the history of photography and the history of the Vietnamese revolution for a long time to come.

In addition, he also has other photos of profound historical value, such as the photo capturing the moment the Provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was introduced to the people in 1945, and the photo of the National Assembly meeting for the first time. His works are considered to bear the mark of art, historical accuracy, and excellent shaping techniques.

According to photographer Chu Chi Thanh, former President of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists, photographer Vu Nang An is a person associated with historical photos. In August 1945, not only was he present at those hot spots, but only he had such valuable photos. That shows his special qualities, his sensitivity, his adherence to events and his photography talent.

After the events of August 19, 1945, photographer Vu Nang An joined the revolution. He created many photographic works of historical and artistic value, recording the nation's long resistance war.

In 1996, he was awarded the first Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts. Although in different art forms, the song "August 19" by musician Xuan Oanh and the photos by photographer Vu Nang An were born at the same historical moment, imbued with the breath of the times and the emotions of the revolutionary autumn. On one side is the bustling melody, urging thousands of hearts to join in the same step; on the other side are the authentic images, marking the moment of victory forever.

The works have transcended ordinary artistic value to become everlasting witnesses, demonstrating a heroic and sacred historical period of the nation; contributing to connecting the past with the present, reminding today's generation to cherish independence, preserve peace and always be ready to contribute to the Fatherland.
