Al Jazeera reported that on February 26, local officials said the death toll from a Sudanese military plane crash in Omdurman city, a suburb of the capital Khartoum, has risen to at least 46 people.

On the evening of February 25 (local time), an Antonov crashed while taking off from Wadi Seidna military airport.

The Khartoum Media Office said the crash also injured 10 others. According to initial reports from the Sudanese Ministry of Health , the death toll was 19 and the plane crashed into a house in the Karrari district of Omdurman city.

The Ministry of Health said that among the injured were children and all were taken by emergency teams to a nearby hospital for care and treatment.

Major General Bahr Ahmed, a senior commander in Khartoum, is believed to be among those killed.

The Sudanese military also issued a statement, confirming that casualties in the collision included soldiers. The statement did not specify the cause of the incident, but military sources interviewed by Reuters said it was likely due to a technical fault.

Residents in northern Omdurman said they heard a loud bang from the plane crash, which damaged several homes and left power outages in some nearby areas.
