BBC pointed out that Man City earned around £37.8 million, becoming the team with the highest prize money since the beginning of the tournament. This amount of money is thanks to the Etihad team's perfect record in the group stage.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are said to have pocketed £33.8m. The Blues suffered a group stage defeat to Flamengo, which cost them nearly £1.5m in prize money.
From the round of 16 onwards, the prize money for each team will be the same if they progress further. Both Man City and Chelsea will be able to collect an additional £9.6m if they win the round of 16. If they can continue further in the tournament, the prize money will increase significantly.
