The UK's first "teacherless" classroom, using artificial intelligence (AI) instead of teachers, is set to open this month at the David Game School, a private school in London.

Students will learn using AI platforms on computers and virtual reality headsets that will figure out what extra help they need and then tailor their learning throughout the semester, even to individual student abilities.

“There are a lot of excellent teachers, but we all make mistakes,” said John Dalton, the school’s principal. “I think it’s very difficult to get the level of accuracy that AI does.”

Joseph, a student at the school who tested the teaching system, said: "A teacher doesn't really know each student's weaknesses because there are too many students. Meanwhile, AI will find each student's weaknesses and help them improve their learning results."

However, the idea of entrusting children'seducation to AI is controversial.

Chris McGovern, a retired headteacher who served as an adviser to the UK government's policy decision-making group, acknowledged the role of AI in teaching, but said that using AI in this way would take away communication skills and interaction between students and teachers.

In fact, on August 28, the British Government announced a new project to help teachers use AI in teaching, specifically in marking homework and planning lessons for classes.

To attend this "teacherless" class, students will have to pay tuition fees of around £27,000 a year.
