On the morning of August 26, some schools in Hanoi had scheduled to gather students to prepare for the opening of the school year, but had to notify students not to go to school because of heavy rain and flooding on many streets.

According to regulations, only students in grades 1, 9 and 12 are allowed to go to school at this time. Students in other grades only come to school to prepare for the opening ceremony. However, many principals said that because it rained heavily all night, they proactively told students not to go to school.

Ms. Cao Thanh Nga, principal of Phan Huy Chu High School - Dong Da (Hanoi), said that at 6:15 a.m. today, she saw information that many roads were flooded, so she notified students via electronic contact books and SMS messages to study at home.

In the coming days, due to the preliminary and final rehearsal schedule of A80, the school has decided to switch from in-person teaching to online teaching during the time before National Day.

Many high school and middle school principals of schools in Tay Ho, Hai Ba Trung, Dong Da wards, etc. also said that because the rain was so heavy right when students were going to school, even though they had not yet received information about the flooding, they still stopped students from going to school to ensure safety.

"My child was scheduled to go to school to gather and prepare for the opening ceremony, but the rain was so heavy that I proactively called the homeroom teacher. She asked for the principal's opinion and announced on the class group that the students would be off school," said Ms. Hang, a parent in Ha Dong, Hanoi.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Tran The Cuong, director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said: The Department has asked schools to flexibly direct the handling of flooding caused by the weather and may temporarily suspend students from going to school, ensuring convenience and safety for students.
