In recent times, the province has had many activities to support farmers and enterprises in trade promotion; especially participating in selling agricultural products and specialties on e-commerce platforms and social networks. This is a channel for consuming agricultural products with great potential, helping farmers to be more proactive in output when participating in the agricultural product distribution chain and building agricultural product brands for farmers.
New potential consumption channel
With about 1 hour of live streaming selling Tan Trieu grapefruit specialty and the product having been previously introduced on social networking sites, the live stream on July 21 sold about 2 thousand grapefruits to farmers.
Participating in the live stream program selling grapefruit specialties, Head of the Tan Trieu Organic Grapefruit Growing Cooperative (Tan Trieu Commune) Bui Van Ty shared that farmers have mastered the techniques of planting and caring for grapefruit to produce delicious grapefruit. The cooperative has also converted to organic farming to produce safe grapefruit. The difficulty for farmers over the past time has been the story of "good harvest, low price", farmers hope to be supported to access online sales channels so that local agricultural products and specialties have a more stable output.
Sharing the same view, Director of Vuong Huong Trading and Service Company Limited (Tan Trieu Commune) Nguyen Minh Vuong said that the company has linked farmers to form cultivation areas according to VietGAP and organic processes, participating in 4-star OCOP certification for Tan Trieu grapefruit with the goal of building a brand for local specialties. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the output of grapefruit has become increasingly unstable; especially when grapefruit is harvested in abundance, the price of grapefruit is often below the production cost but consumption is still slow. Realizing that today's consumer needs have changed, they are used to ordering online for home delivery, the company has promoted promotion and sales channels on e-commerce channels or social networks. Although still quite new, this is a very effective consumption channel.
Director of FPT Polytechnic College Dong Nai Tran Duy Phong said that the school cooperated with the Provincial Farmers' Association in implementing the program to support farmers and businesses to live stream to sell agricultural products. In phase 1, the school completely exempted equipment, technical aspects as well as human resources to support farmers to sell agricultural products and OCOP products of the province. The sales channel belongs to the businesses and farmers themselves so that after the program ends, they can continue to live stream to sell their products on their own social networking sites. In the future, the school is ready to accompany farmers to develop these online sales channels. In fact, after being supported and familiarized, farmers can completely organize live streams to sell agricultural products right at their gardens.
In recent times, Dong Nai Farmers' Associations at all levels have coordinated with e-commerce platforms to mobilize, guide and support members and farmers to put their products on the platform for consumption. As a result, nearly 2,000 farmer households have accounts on the e-commerce platform; 273 agricultural products have been updated on the e-commerce platform of the Department of Industry and Trade (ecdn.vn), the e-commerce platform of Vietnam Post (Postmart), Lazada, Tiki, Shopee...; 138 agricultural products have been supported and guided by the association to build brands and trademarks.
Opportunities for farmers to participate in the distribution chain
Recently, Dong Nai has paid great attention to developing e-commerce, including supporting farmers and enterprises to promote their brands and participate in e-commerce trading floors. Enterprises, cooperatives and farmers are also given the opportunity to participate in training programs on brand building and effective ways to promote products in the online environment, online business training, etc.
Recently, more and more trading floors and online markets selling agricultural products have been opened. Online agricultural business activities are gradually becoming popular because this is a distribution channel with many competitive advantages, buyers and sellers directly transact without having to go through too many intermediaries like traditional distribution channels. Especially, in the context of economic difficulties and declining purchasing power, farmers live streaming to sell products is one of the solutions to help consume agricultural products effectively.
Director of Dong Du Ky Food Production and Import-Export Trading Company Limited (located in Trang Bom Commune) Nong Senh Bau shared that the company is very interested in investing in promoting and selling on e-commerce channels. This is a new and very effective sales channel, saving costs and limiting risks, very suitable for businesses in the current difficult period. The favorable conditions for developing online sales are that even elderly consumers in both urban and rural areas use smartphones, surf Facebook and have online accounts, and have the habit of shopping online.
Director of FPT Polytechnic College Dong Nai Tran Duy Phong added that through the implementation, it shows that Vietnamese people really like products grown by gardeners and introduced to consumers. Farmers are very good at production but are still weak in spreading the word about their products or building brands for their agricultural products.
“Through the implementation, I see that the live stream sales activity has created a very good effect on consumers across the country. Vietnamese people are currently using social networking sites as well as online media a lot, which is an opportunity for farmers to promote and sell products online” - Mr. Tran Duy Phong shared.
The Provincial Farmers' Association also has many programs to support farmers in digital transformation. Specifically, the Provincial Farmers' Association has signed with the Provincial Post Office a program to coordinate support for farmers in digital transformation in production and consumption of agricultural products and goods in the period of 2022-2025. The purpose is to support good production and business households, individual business households, cooperatives, cooperative groups, and professional association groups to participate in e-commerce platforms to connect, promote, introduce products, add new distribution channels, and expand domestic and international markets.
Ms. Le Thi Thu Huong, in charge of the socio-economic sector of the Provincial Farmers' Association, said that to support farmers in consuming agricultural products, the Provincial Farmers' Association has connected many programs to support the consumption of agricultural products, including live streaming sales activities. This program has created a very good response from both farmers and consumers. In the coming time, the association will promote this activity, supporting farmers to participate in the distribution of agricultural products so that the products have a more stable output.
