Lao Cai informs about the case of a candidate's re-examination score increasing from 1.1 to 8.75

GD&TĐ - The Lao Cai Department of Education and Training has just explained the reason why the Biology exam re-examination score of a candidate increased by more than 7.6 points.

On August 13, the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training issued a press release regarding the information that "a candidate's test score increased from 1.1 points to 8.75 points after the 2025 high school graduation review" which received public attention.

According to the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training, after the deadline for receiving applications, the Examination Council conducted a review of the 2025 high school graduation exams in accordance with regulations. During the process, the Council discovered that a Biology exam had a candidate who wrote the wrong exam code on the exam receipt, and also wrote and filled in the wrong code on the multiple-choice answer sheet compared to the code that was distributed.

Identifying this as an unusual case, the Department of Education and Training reported and asked for instructions from the Ministry of Education and Training . Based on the Ministry's instructions and requesting a solution to ensure the rights of candidates, the Lao Cai Department of Education and Training made a record of the unusual re-scoring of the exam, with the confirmation, witness and supervision of the police force, the inspection team, the provincial inspectorate and related members at the Re-examination Board.

As a result, the candidate's exam score was adjusted from 1.1 to 8.75 points, an increase of 7.65 points compared to before the review.

In the 2025 high school graduation exam, Lao Cai province has 2 examination councils, 55 examination sites with more than 18,300 candidates taking the exam. The graduation rate of the whole province reached 99.1%, of which the old Lao Cai province reached 99.27% (high school reached 99.59%, continuing education reached 97.35%, independent candidates reached 50%), the old Yen Bai province reached 98.94% (high school reached 99.79%, continuing education reached 94.43%, independent candidates reached 57.14%).
