Journey of innovation and integration

During the period 2000–2025, Vietnam witnessed strong economic, political and social changes, driven by the process of deep international integration and the digital technology revolution. Education is also constantly innovating, proactively and flexibly with many breakthroughs, creating a comprehensive education, ready to adapt to the development of the times.

If in the early 2000s, the industry focused on expanding its scale, from 2011 to 2020, education shifted to fundamental and comprehensive innovation, increased application of information technology and international integration. After 2020, facing many complex fluctuations, the industry had breakthrough solutions to maintain operations, affirming its key role in the country's development.

The COVID-19 pandemic has become a strong impetus, promoting the conversion to online teaching and learning with the motto "temporarily stop going to school, not stop learning". After the pandemic, digital transformation has been identified as a strategic direction with the goal of perfecting industry databases, developing digital science resources, and fostering digital skills for teachers and students. This is a challenging period, but it also creates momentum for innovation in teaching methods, affirming the flexible adaptability of the Vietnamese education system to global fluctuations.

In terms of scale, over the past 25 years, Vietnamese education has expanded rapidly at all levels. Preschool education was universalized for 5-year-olds in 2017, with nearly 99% of children attending school. At the general level, universal primary education has been firmly maintained, lower secondary education has been completed nationwide, and many localities have universalized upper secondary education; the proportion of students attending school at the right age has increased, and the dropout rate has decreased significantly.

Vocational education has also developed strongly, by 2020 about 70% of workers who have received vocational training will be granted certificates. In higher education, the number of students per 10,000 people increased from 117 (in 2000) to more than 200 (in 2010) and continued to increase in the period 2020-2025. Many universities are autonomous, more closely linked to the labor market.

By 2025, Vietnam's education system will have formed a synchronous network from preschool to postgraduate level, with diverse types, gradually approaching regional and international standards.

In that general picture, localities all have creative ways of doing things, contributing to affirming the resilience of Vietnamese education. Gia Lai is one of the highlights, with many efforts to overcome difficulties and remarkable achievements in the past school year.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the Gia Lai province education sector achieved many outstanding achievements. At the preschool level, 100% of 5-year-old children completed the program and were fully prepared to enter grade 1.

Primary schools continue to expand the 2-session/day teaching model, with 174/407 schools organizing 9-10 sessions/week, accounting for 42.75%; the number of schools teaching 7-10 sessions (including some classes teaching 9-10 sessions) 233/407, accounting for 57.25%. At secondary and high school levels, 100% of teachers are trained in innovative teaching methods, all schools implement teaching according to the 2018 General Education Program, focusing on developing students' capacity, qualities and self-study methods.

The competitions recorded many impressive results: Gia Lai students won 101 prizes in the national competition for excellent students; students from the whole province also won 4 more prizes at the National Science and Technology Competition and 1 Third Prize at the Student Startup Competition; Nguyen Quoc Nhat Minh excellently entered the Finals of the Road to Olympia 2024 and won Third Prize. Notably, Le Kien Thanh (Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted) won the Gold Medal at the 2025 International Olympiad in Informatics.

In the 2025 high school graduation exam, the whole province had 35,213 candidates taking the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program, with a graduation passing rate of 99.32%.

In the field of vocational education, from 2024 to July 2025, the province will recruit 55,858 new students. Of these, more than 39,800 will graduate, contributing to the rate of trained workers increasing by over 2% per year, exceeding the target of the Provincial People's Council Resolution. Notably, more than 80% of rural workers after training have new jobs or increased income.

The above results show that Gia Lai's educational picture is not only stable in universal quality but also has many excellent students, affirming its potential to go far in the period of innovation.
