The Land of MiniLED TVs

For large-sized TVs, MiniLED is still the preferred choice thanks to its low price and durability.

In addition to picture quality, large size is still one of the preferred factors when choosing a TV. Domestic users tend to look for large products, when the current market base is 55 inches. In fact, TV size is directly proportional to the experience. What limits customers is the size of the living room and the amount of money they can spend.

To balance these two factors, LED technology is still a solution that users should consider. Although the solution is limited in display compared to OLED, its durability has been proven and the cost is significantly lower. For the same amount of money, users can also choose a big brand for peace of mind, instead of new brands.

LG recently introduced the QNED86, which is the largest at 100 inches. However, this model costs only half the price of OLED of the same size. In addition to being large, the TV still has WebOS, air mouse control, high brightness and modern AI.

What to get when choosing a big TV

Modern devices still revolve around screens to display content. The need to view content at large sizes always exists. The technological limitations are what prevent them from expanding further. For example, when larger phones are needed, companies have to find folding solutions. To view content on screens on small devices, virtual reality solutions are born.

To take the experience to the next level, people are willing to spend billions of dollars to build the Sphear theater in Las Vegas, which has a viewing room with a screen that fills to the ceiling.

Therefore, large size is always on the priority list when choosing a TV, along with display quality and accompanying technology. The QNED86 model was created to serve this need. Its 100-inch size is suitable for large living rooms, mounted on the wall, with elegantly hidden wires. Such a product will balance with large spaces and help upgrade the viewing experience.

In numbers, the QNED86 is about 25% larger than a typical 75-inch. But in reality, a 100-inch TV has twice the usable area.

Large TVs also recreate the “immersion” experience. This feeling appears when watching movies in theaters, when the large projection screen covers a large area, combined with a dark space, helping to focus more on the content and images. This experience can be simulated when watching on LG's 100-inch TV model. Similarly, for gaming purposes, fast-paced racing games will be most realistic when the display covers the user's entire field of view (POV). With its super large size, the QNED86 creates this at a sitting distance of less than 3m.

To support this group of customers, the TV is equipped with HDMI 2.1, a higher bandwidth than the usual standard. The QNED86 also has a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz, supporting modern consoles and PCs. However, its high response speed makes it unsuitable for “hardcore” FPS gaming.

80% OLED quality

LG is known for being the world's largest seller of OLED TVs. They advertise the superiority of this technology over regular LEDs. This does not mean that their QNED models have poor display capabilities. Unlike regular LED TVs, the product in question has the support of MiniLED backlighting and Dynamic QNED Color imaging solution.

Hundreds of locally powered, adjustable LEDs dynamically adjust brightness for each display area. Overall, the TV reaches over 1,300 nits, which is higher than the standard required for outdoor display. This year, LG has moved away from Quantum Dot and instead used a different solution to process colors. The new technology still ensures 100% color coverage. There is also no color fading at high brightness.

With good display quality, QNED is only inferior to OLED in contrast and blooming phenomenon.

If not placed next to a high-end OLED TV, users will easily be satisfied with the display capabilities of this product. The main difference lies in the contrast and black. The characteristic vividness of OLED comes partly from the extremely high contrast between color bands. So TVs using this technology reproduce clearer color patterns. In addition, its black is absolute.

These two points the QNED86 still cannot surpass. It does not have the “clarity” of the C5 or G5. At the same time, there is still a bit of blooming when displaying bright content on a black background. In terms of price, users have to pay hundreds of millions of dong more for OLEDs of similar size.

Using backlight, the product cannot be as thin as the wall as G5, M5. But this thinness does not cause any inconvenience during use. The size limits the TV's speaker function to a level that is enough to hear, not impressive. High-standard users can buy additional soundbars from the company, designed in sync and simulating spatial sound like watching movies in theaters.

Who is it for?

At VND100 million, the QNED86 is a suitable choice for customers who need a large TV for large spaces. The product requires a significantly more comfortable investment than OLEDs of the same size. Users who choose the new model also receive AI upgrades, remote and new WebOS like the expensive M5 series. LG is also famous in Vietnam for its good after-sales service.

If picture quality is a priority, a 75-inch OLED like the G5 is a better fit. Alternatively, users also have some MiniLED options from Samsung like the QN90F or Sony Bravia 9.
