- On June 28, 2025, the ceremony to receive the title of Lang Son UNESCO Global Geopark officially took place in Lang Son city . This is an important event marking a historical milestone for the northern borderland, a testament to the persistent and creative efforts in the journey to preserve and promote the values of geological, cultural and ecological heritage of the people of Lang Son.
Lang Son Geopark was officially recognized by UNESCO as a global geopark on April 17, 2025. After 5 years of efforts to build and develop, passing strict assessment rounds of international experts, Lang Son Geopark, named "Lang Son Geopark", has become the 5th global geopark in Vietnam. This is the result of the synchronous participation of the Party Committee, government, community, businesses, and people and has been affirmed through large-scale geological surveys and scientific research in the province in recent times.
With an area of 4,842.58 km², spanning the entire administrative boundaries of Bac Son, Chi Lang, Huu Lung, Van Quan, Loc Binh districts, Lang Son city and part of Binh Gia and Cao Loc districts, Lang Son Geopark converges many unique values. With the theme "The flow of life in the sacred land", Lang Son Geopark is considered a living museum of the history of the earth with rich geological formations, unique karst fields, rare fossil sites and especially the Na Duong basin - which is considered a "special window into the late Eocene ecosystem from Southeast Asia".
Besides its geological value, Lang Son is also a place that preserves a rich cultural treasure of 7 ethnic groups, with beliefs, festivals, folk songs and traditional customs imbued with their identities. The worship of Mother Goddess, Then practice, Na Nhem festival, Ky Cung - Ta Phu Temple festival, or the sound of Tinh lute, sli, luong... are now not only cultural assets but also become "messengers" of a vibrant heritage area amidst the green mountains and blue waters of Lang Son.

From cleaning, decorating the lobby space, meeting rooms, to thoroughly checking the equipment, sound and lighting systems, everything is done carefully and meticulously. At the same time, logistics, security, and culinary plans are also specifically planned to ensure the success of the event.
In addition to the careful and thoughtful preparation of the organization, other activities are also paid attention to and focused on to create a beautiful image of Lang Son. One of the highlights in the series of activities is the art performances that will take place right in Tam Thanh cave - one of the typical destinations in Lang Son Geopark for delegates to visit and admire in reality.
Ms. Le Thi Can, Director of Lang Son City Culture and Sports Center, said: In addition to ensuring environmental sanitation and landscape improvement in the city as well as in the Tam Thanh cave area, the unit has coordinated with local folk song clubs to select more than 20 members, including children as young as 4 years old, to practice and perform Then singing and Chau dancing. We hope that the harmonious combination of the geological beauty of the cave and local culture will contribute to promoting and creating a deep and unforgettable impression on domestic and international delegates.
Along with the urgency and responsibility of specialized agencies, travel businesses, and media units that have been and are continuing to accompany the province in a series of activities to welcome guests, experience heritage, propagate and promote, making CVD no longer a strange concept but gradually becoming the pride of every Lang Son resident.
Especially in recent times, the inclusion of Geopark content in school curricula, the organization of community guide classes, and geological experience programs for students have helped the heritage “live” in everyday life, and be passed on through generations. Therefore, this event has become more widespread and meaningful, creating a joyful atmosphere in the hearts of the people.
Vy Hoang Bao Thy, grade 6, Tam Thanh Secondary School, Lang Son City said: In the program to receive the title of UNESCO Global Geopark Lang Son, I was honored to participate in performing a children's song "Pha oi phan, pha oi det" (translated as Oh rain, oh sun). During the practice of the performance and through the knowledge about Lang Son Geopark learned at school, I felt very proud and excited to look forward to this event. I will share with my parents and family members to protect and introduce the beauty of Lang Son Geopark to everyone.
Receiving the prestigious title of Global Geopark from UNESCO opens a new beginning for the sustainable development journey of Lang Son Geopark. More than 500 million years of formation through each geological layer, to the vibrant cultural values preserved through many generations, now is the moment of convergence of faith, expectation and proof affirming that Lang Son is not only the land at the headland of the Fatherland, but also the "precious gem of the Northeast region", a heritage destination of humanity that is gradually shining on the world geological map.
