Children participate in the final round of the painting competition.

The special and valuable point of this year's contest is its strong spread to many students, not only stopping at primary and secondary school students but also expanding to children outside of school and especially children with disabilities.

The entries are not only technically impressive but also touch the emotions with unique ideas, expressing the depth of thinking of the “child artists”. The content of the paintings is diverse, reflecting the richness of the children’s souls and worldviews . From paintings depicting the simple beauty of the homeland, country, and Vietnamese people through daily activities, to exciting adventures in the imaginary world.

The children also vividly recreated characters from books, folk tales, legends or the heroic history of the nation's struggle against foreign invaders. Each stroke, each color block contained its own story, expressing the children's true emotions and understanding of the world around them.

The paintings won high prizes in the competition.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Duong, a teacher at the Provincial School for the Disabled, shared: “This year, the school has 12 contestants. For children with special needs, we always guide and give ideas, from which they will expand and create more to complete their paintings. In particular, when supporting hearing-impaired children, sign language must be concise and succinct so that they can easily understand and express themselves.” She also expressed her impression of the increasing scale and professionalism of the contest, and hoped that the contest would be maintained annually to provide more summer playgrounds for children.

Ms. Huynh Thi Cam Van, a teacher at Ngo That Son Primary School in Chau Thanh District, proudly told about one of her students who chose to draw about the Dien Bien Phu victory in the final round. “She expressed her passion for history through every stroke, from the image of the resilient soldier to the fierce but also heroic battlefield landscape,” Ms. Van said. She hopes that through these activities, children will form the habit of reading, thereby loving their homeland and country even more.

One of the notable young contestants is Dang Ngoc Hoang Long, a 5D student at Ngo That Son Primary School. He shared an interesting story about his creative process: “My teacher and I came up with ideas for the painting together. Then, I spent a full 120 minutes completing my entry using acrylic paint.”

Dang Ngoc Hoang Long, a student at Ngo That Son Primary School, drew a picture with the theme "Dien Bien Phu Victory".

In addition, other young contestants also brought unique and emotional paintings. Huynh Ngoc Gia Linh, class 4A, Nguyen Du Primary School, Tay Ninh City, drew a church that she saw on her way to school; the painting not only showed her keen observation skills but also showed her sensitive soul to the beautiful scenery around her. Huynh Luong Kha Ngan, class 4A, from the same school, expressed her national pride through a painting titled “I am proud of a strip of mountains and rivers”.

Nurturing talent

The final round is the final challenge but also an opportunity for the young contestants to shine. Each child has 120 minutes to create works on A3, A4 white paper or Vietnamese roky paper, with a variety of materials of their choice such as pencils, crayons, oil paints, gouache, watercolors or paper tearing and pasting techniques. The variety of materials allows children to freely express their personal style and technique, creating rich and colorful works.

Artist Tran Van Chinh - Head of the Jury, gave profound professional comments on the quality of this year's contest. He said: "The contest received enthusiastic response from a large number of contestants. They all prepared very well in terms of content as well as form of their entries. The themes of the works do not stop at simple paintings but also express deep love for the homeland and country, sacred maternal love and dreams of a bright future."

However, artist Chinh also noted: “There are some very beautiful paintings, but the ideas are similar to those already on the internet. The judges always score based on the criteria of creativity as the top priority. We want to encourage students to develop independent thinking, creating works with their own personal mark instead of copying.”

The jury selected outstanding works to award prizes.

After hours of tireless creativity by the young artists, the Organizing Committee announced the results: First prize in the primary school category went to contestant Luong Ngoc Ba Anh (Bien Gioi Primary School, Chau Thanh District); First prize in the secondary school category was awarded to contestant Phan Thi Hai Yen (Ben Cui Primary - Secondary School, Duong Minh Chau District); First prize in the category of children with special circumstances was honored by contestant Do Thi Ngoc Giang (Provincial School for the Disabled).

Mr. Nguyen Nam Giang - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded the First Prize to the contestants.

In addition to individual awards, group awards were also given to schools with a large number of contestants and high quality entries. The first group award went to Tay Ninh Province School for the Disabled.

This annual painting competition has become a meaningful and practical summer playground, not only a place to nurture young painting talents but also a place to educate about love for homeland, country and the importance of knowledge. Hopefully, the seeds of passion for knowledge sown from the competition will continue to flourish, contributing to building a generation of young Vietnamese people rich in intelligence and aspirations to rise up.
