Enriching understanding of marine science and sustainable development

The international conference “Innovation and Sustainable Development 2023” with the participation of more than 250 domestic and foreign scientists to celebrate 50 years of cooperation between Vietnam and the UK took place on July 22 in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa.

The conference was chaired by Nha Trang University and coordinated with the Vietnam Association for Research and Editing of Scientific and Technological Works (VASE), including two seminars celebrating 50 years of cooperation between Vietnam and the UK.

The conference aims to build and develop Vietnam's marine economy in a sustainable and effective manner "Strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy to 2030, vision to 2045".

The event is also an opportunity for domestic and foreign scientists to meet, exchange and share the latest research results to serve the goal of sustainable development of the marine economy.

Speaking at the conference, Associate Professor, Dr. Trang Si Trung, Rector of Nha Trang University, said: The conference will take place over 3 days, from July 21-23. In the plenary session, scientists from Korea, Japan, Norway and Iceland presented 4 papers.

In the thematic sessions, there are about 150 reports by researchers, which are valuable documents that enrich the understanding of marine science and sustainable development in the context of the 4.0 industrial revolution.

Speaking at the plenary session, Ms. Donna McGowan, Director of the British Council in Vietnam, said: This conference is one of the important events to launch the British Council's "UK/Vietnam Season 2023" program, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of official diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the UK and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the British Council in Vietnam.

The conference is also an opportunity for the parties to further strengthen existing relationships and create more innovative partnerships based on trust, respect and mutual understanding between the two countries.

During the plenary session, many scientists, policy makers and stakeholders discussed and shared new scientific, technical and technological achievements, promoting effective and sustainable development, supporting economic growth, social welfare and protecting Vietnam's marine environment.

On the afternoon of July 22, two special workshops took place, one was the UK-Vietnam Workshop on the shared legacy of sustainable university-industry collaboration, impactful research, digital education and academic exchange. The other was the UK-Vietnam Workshop on bioengineering and sustainable health, focusing on the development of spore vaccines for Helicobacter pylori and new technologies for sustainable development.
