According to Bao Viet Securities Company (BVSC), deposit interest rates have increased again in some major terms since the beginning of August.
At 6-month term, average mobilization interest rate increased by 0.01%, to 4.48%; at 12-month term, it increased from 5.04% to 5.07%.
State-owned commercial banks continued to keep deposit interest rates unchanged at key terms, while other commercial banks recorded an increase in deposit interest rates.
At a meeting with commercial banks in early August, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) said that the average lending interest rate for the entire system had decreased to 6.53%/year, 4 basis points lower than at the end of 2024.
The State Bank reaffirmed its flexible monetary policy direction, supported liquidity, and requested credit institutions to implement solutions to reduce deposit interest rates, contributing to stabilizing the monetary market and creating room to reduce lending interest rates.
The State Bank also requested credit institutions to continue to take more drastic measures to reduce operating costs, increase the application of information technology, digital transformation, simplify procedures and other measures to reduce lending interest rates, and support people and businesses in accessing credit capital.
According to BVSC, in the context of controlled inflation and moderate exchange rate pressure, the State Bank of Vietnam will likely maintain low operating interest rates, deposit interest rates and lending interest rates to stimulate credit demand, thereby supporting economic growth.
