Special memories of the female hero of the renovation period about General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

Talking to reporters, Ms. Pham Thi Huan (Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Ba Huan Company) repeatedly mentioned the statement in the speech of the General Secretary at the Congress of Delegates of the Vietnam Farmers' Union at the end of 2023: "Agriculture, farmers, and rural areas are three important elements in the cause of innovation, construction and protection of the Fatherland".

In the memory of this Hero of Labor in the renovation period, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong always had sincere feelings, care, and was especially close to farmers. During his three terms as General Secretary, he proposed many policies as a lever for the development of "three agricultures".

And for more than 50 years of farming , the woman known as the "queen of clean poultry eggs" has never seen a period when Vietnamese farmers were as radiant and proud as they are now.

From that moment on, I could hardly sleep.

Ms. Pham Thi Huan (70 years old, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Ba Huan Company Limited) – affectionately known as Ms. Ba Huan – one of the outstanding farmers in the country, has met General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong three times. For her, those are unforgettable events in her life.

10 years younger than General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, but during the 3 meetings, Ms. Ba Huan always respectfully called him "Uncle Trong".

“I have hardly slept since last night when I heard the news of Uncle Trong’s death. I am so sad,” said Ba Huan sadly.

Having spent more than 50 years in agriculture, Ms. Pham Thi Huan was awarded the title of Labor Hero of the Renovation Period (2019); received the Second Class Labor Medal (2011); 1 of the 100 most outstanding women of the year in the world (2012); 1 of the 50 most influential women in Vietnam (2017)... But for this woman, all of that is not as proud as meeting General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, directly listening to his emotional and sincere advice.

“I remember clearly, it was October 13, 2017, at the program Proud of Vietnamese Farmers, in the afternoon I and many other excellent farmers were able to greet the General Secretary,” said the 70-year-old woman.

For a moment, Mrs. Ba Huan recalled that emotional meeting. When the organizers informed her about the program in advance, she felt nervous, even though it was the second time she had met the General Secretary.

“I remember the car taking the delegation to the Central Party Office hall. At first, I was a bit nervous. When I entered the hall, seeing Uncle Trong simple, gentle, smiling kindly to welcome the excellent Vietnamese farmers, only then did I feel less nervous.”

In addition to the meeting, Ms. Ba Huan also represented the peasant class to speak before General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

“I still remember telling him about my difficult childhood as a farmer. I reported to him about the company’s achievements over the past decades.

Uncle Ho not only listened and took notes in his notebook, but also responded with words of thanks, good health wishes, and encouraged us to strongly apply technology in production to increase product value, helping farmers and the country's agriculture," said Ms. Ba Huan.

For Ba Huan, that encouragement has helped her and many other farmers gain more strength and will to overcome Covid-19 and the post-pandemic period, and have a strong determination to transform digitally and get rich in their homeland, which they have been attached to for generations.

“At the end of that afternoon, he asked us to stay and take pictures in the lobby and then saw us off to the gate. He was extremely affectionate and loved the extremely simple, friendly, and sincere General Secretary,” recalled the person who was honored in the 2017 Pride of Vietnamese Farmers program.

Strong determination from the General Secretary's advice

Ms. Ba Huan commented: Under the leadership of the Party and the State, the cause of agricultural and rural development and improving the lives of farmers continues to be promoted. Our country has gone from a food shortage to a leading exporter of rice and agricultural products in the world, firmly ensuring national food security. Vietnamese farmers always take pride in that.

“If our farmers are rich, our country will be rich” is a saying of President Ho Chi Minh that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has repeated many times in his speeches at conferences with farmers.

“I always consider that as my guiding principle. I have proven that I live completely in accordance with that motto and leadership,” Ms. Ba Huan affirmed.

In July 2021, the Covid-19 pandemic broke out strongly, and Ms. Pham Thi Huan's Ba Huan Company Limited was praised by the community for not increasing the price of poultry eggs. Meanwhile, at the peak of the pandemic, many businesses increased their selling prices due to pressure on costs and supply chains.

The solution of the woman who heads this business is to provide consumers with safe products, without disrupting the production chain, without workers losing their jobs, and without causing people to panic. In agriculture, farmers are the core element in everything, as General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong advised.

“I think I have been involved in Vietnamese agriculture for more than 50 years, starting with my mother to buy eggs from farmers since I was 12 years old, also experiencing hardships and understanding all the hardships of farmers.

I did not increase the price of eggs, kept the price stable, and maintained the supply chain for farmers. At that time, people spent 5-10 billion VND to buy vaccines for people. While I was doing agriculture, I had egg prices, so I supported the people of the city and neighboring provinces with egg prices to help people consume less difficultly," said the woman who was awarded the title of Hero of Labor in the renovation period.

At that time, Ms. Ba Huan’s company produced more than 1 million eggs per day. After the pandemic, she initially calculated that she also lost billions. But that was also the heart of the “egg tycoon” for the people.

The pride of a farmer's life

Like Ms. Pham Thi Huan, Mr. Vo Quan Huy (69 years old, living in Long An) is one of the outstanding farmers who met General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in 2017.

Mr. Huy is humorously known as the “banana king”. He is the first person to export Vietnamese banana products to Japan, China, Singapore…

This man is considered a "super landlord" because he cultivates more than 1,000 hectares of agricultural land spanning from: Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, Tay Ninh, Long An, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Lam Dong.

“I was proud, very proud. That was the first time I met General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong,” Mr. Vo Quan Huy expressed his emotion when recalling the first time he met the General Secretary.

At this meeting, Mr. Huy also represented businesses and farmers to speak about concerns from labor, production and business practices.

“I think the State needs to promote international cooperation policies and expand export markets for key agricultural products – one of the competitive advantages of Vietnamese agriculture,” Mr. Huy said at the time of meeting the General Secretary.

Mr. Huy recalled that on that day, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong listened attentively and supported those who were honored. The General Secretary also shook hands and smiled brightly, sending his feelings to the farmers present that day.

“It is the pride of a farmer’s life. When I heard the news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s passing, I felt extremely sad. It is a great loss for the nation,” said Mr. Huy.
