The Vietnamese women's team entered the Top 4 of the 2023 Asian Championship, was one of the 4 strongest women's teams at ASIAD 19 and won the AVC Challenge Cup/AVC Nations Cup for 3 consecutive years.
The 2025 World Volleyball Championship will take place in Thailand from August 22 to September 7, bringing together 32 of the world's strongest teams. In their first appearance at the world tournament, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will be placed in Group G with very strong opponents Poland, Germany and Kenya.
The group stage is considered very difficult for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team. While the Polish women's team is currently ranked 3rd in the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) rankings, Germany is ranked 11th. Meanwhile, Kenya is right behind the Vietnamese team, at 23rd in the world. These are all strong teams, possessing different professional schools and having players with outstanding skills in scoring points.
The Vietnamese women's volleyball team has made significant progress in the past 2 years but it seems that it is still not comparable to its opponents. With the possession of the best attacking players in Europe and the world today (Magdalena Stysiak, Aleksandra Gryka, Karolina Drukowska...), the Polish women's volleyball team is considered the strongest in the group, and is even a strong candidate for the championship this season. The German team has a stable and even force. At the recent Volleyball Nations League 2025, the German team defeated the Thai women's team 3-0.
The Kenyan women’s team is no stranger to Vietnam. The African team won a friendly match two years ago when the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team went to France to participate in the FIVB Challenge Cup.
To prepare for this year's World Volleyball Championship, Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team have made careful preparations for this special event with long-term focus, competing in consecutive international tournaments since the beginning of 2025. The team has achieved quite positive results with the AVC Nations Cup championship, VTV Cup runner-up, Top 4 Shanghai Futures Star, runner-up in stage 1 and then champion of stage 2 of SEA V.League 2025.
On the morning of August 20, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team left for Thailand to participate in the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship.
The coaching staff of the national team and the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV) have registered 13 members who have participated in major tournaments since the beginning of the tournament year (Bich Tuyen has withdrawn from the list this time). These will also likely be the official members of the Vietnamese team competing at the 33rd SEA Games at the end of the year, also held in Thailand.
The performance of the Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team in their first participation in the recent U21 World Cup in Indonesia left a certain mark. The seniors in the Vietnam team also promise to make a good impression in Thailand in a journey that is considered very difficult.
According to the schedule of the group stage of the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will meet Poland on August 23, Germany (August 25) and Kenya (August 27).
The Vietnamese women's volleyball team does not focus on performance in their first participation in the world arena. The team considers this tournament in Thailand a great opportunity to learn and gain more experience, thereby having the best preparation for the 33rd SEA Games later this year.
The Vietnamese women's volleyball team also determined to compete with all their might to show the image of Vietnamese volleyball to the world.
After the 2025 World Championship, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team finished the first phase of training. The team is expected to train in the second phase in November this year. The most important task of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is to win the SEA Games 33-2025 gold medal.
