Take care
For many years, fish farming has been the main source of income for many farmers in Tu Ky district. Each household has constantly researched and applied techniques to increase productivity, reduce costs, and increase income.
As an experienced aquaculture household in Gom village (Dan An commune), the fish farming productivity of Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tam's family is always among the highest in the area. With 9 sao of traditional fish farming such as grass carp, common carp, tilapia, etc., the fish productivity usually reaches 18 - 20 tons/crop, with some crops reaching up to 23 tons. Not only Mr. Tam's family, some other households such as Nguyen Dinh Thang, Nguyen Dinh Dai, etc. also achieve such high productivity.

Talking about the secret to high-yield fish farming, Mr. Tam said that many factors are needed, but the core is the quality of the fish fry. Fish fry must be purchased from reputable establishments with clear origins, when transporting, strong impacts must be avoided and must be released seasonally. During the farming process, small and weak fish must be regularly screened and maintained at a suitable density to make full use of the food and create an airy environment. The quality of the water source must be good. When the weather changes, after the rain or when the weather is extremely hot, measures must be taken to treat the water source. The aeration system in the pond must always operate to increase the amount of oxygen for the fish.
"During the care process, you should not feed too much because fatty fish are susceptible to disease. I combine using water from Dinh Dao River and wells. It is necessary to regularly check the water quality to detect abnormalities and make timely adjustments," said Mr. Tam.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Doan's family in Nghi Khe village (Tan Ky commune) has more than 11 hectares of aquaculture. Thanks to applying many measures, his fish farming productivity reaches 30 - 32 tons/ha/crop.
Talking about his family's experience in raising fish, in addition to the breed and water source, Mr. Doan said that he had to calculate the appropriate amount of food for the fish, not to feed too much or too little. The fish pond was regularly checked to detect abnormalities and take timely measures. He used an automatic feeding system to reduce costs and increase economic efficiency...
Building quality

Taking advantage of the large rivers flowing through, Tu Ky District People's Committee encourages farmers to expand aquaculture areas. The district currently has 1,783 hectares of aquaculture, with an average yield of 9 tons/ha/crop. Farmers can raise 1.5 crops per year.
To improve productivity and quality of aquatic products, Tu Ky district has built an inter-regional aquaculture area in Tai Son, Quang Phuc, Tan Ky communes with an area of nearly 300 hectares, attracting 455 households to participate. Households are trained in aquaculture knowledge, visit models... to apply fish farming in their families. Therefore, the productivity of households here reaches 30 - 35 tons/ha/crop, some households reach 45 - 60 tons/ha/crop. This productivity is higher than the district's average of 21 - 50 tons/ha/crop. Revenue from each hectare of fish farming reaches 500 - 700 million VND, after deducting costs, people earn a profit of 150 - 175 million VND/ha.

Along with improving productivity, Tu Ky farmers always pay attention to product quality. Mr. Nguyen Huu Doan in Nghi Khe village (Tan Ky commune) said that fish must be raised for a sufficient period of time, at least 7 months, before being harvested so that the fish meat is firm and not powdery. He limits the use of drugs and biological products. He improves the water source by using well water combined with river water. When the fish are ready to be harvested, he also reduces the amount of food to avoid waste, and the fish are firm.
To affirm its position in the market, Dan An Commune People's Committee is currently planning to build a number of farming areas that meet VietGAP standards. "We have determined that we must focus on improving quality so that farmers' products can stand firm in the market. The commune will have appropriate measures to improve the quality of fish as well as other local aquatic products in the coming time," said Mr. Pham Son Tung, Chairman of Dan An Commune People's Committee.
