On the evening of June 27, the People's Committee of Phu Quoc City held the opening ceremony of the first 100-year-old traditional Phu Quoc fish sauce festival in 2025 with the theme "Soul of the homeland".
This is an important cultural - tourism - commercial event, marking a strong turning point in the journey to affirm the brand and value of Phu Quoc fish sauce.
Mr. Tran Minh Khoa - Chairman of Phu Quoc City People's Committee - said that Phu Quoc Fish Sauce Festival is not simply a festival, but also a tribute, an occasion to honor a precious culinary cultural heritage that has accompanied many generations of Phu Quoc people through hundreds of years of formation and development.
Phu Quoc fish sauce is not just a product, but a symbol, a part of flesh and blood, deeply attached to the lives of the islanders.
Since 1945, Phu Quoc fish sauce production has developed and flourished. The factories have used modern and improved production techniques and equipment, and the output and quality of fish sauce have been increasingly improved, reaching 25-40 degrees of nitrogen.
It is the resilient qualities, love for the profession, and belief in traditional values that have helped businesses and factories keep the fire burning and not chase after quantity, always valuing quality. Through that, Phu Quoc fish sauce has become the national soul and quintessence of Phu Quoc pearl island.
Mr. Khoa added that in 2013, Phu Quoc fish sauce was honored to become the first Vietnamese product to be granted geographical indication certification by the European Union in 28 countries. By 2021, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized "Traditional crafts, folk knowledge - Phu Quoc fish sauce making" as a national intangible cultural heritage.
Important milestones bring Phu Quoc fish sauce to the world with a completely new position, not just a spice, but a part of the story of global cultural heritage and cuisine.

"The locality proposed that the People's Committee of Kien Giang province and competent authorities build a Center for Research and Conservation of Traditional Fish Sauce right in Phu Quoc and have a synchronous support policy from the central to local levels to protect the brand, prevent counterfeit goods, and contribute to the sustainable development of the Phu Quoc fish sauce brand," Mr. Khoa emphasized.
Produce 15-20 million liters of traditional fish sauce per year
Phu Quoc City People's Committee said Phu Quoc has 50 barrel houses with more than 7,000 barrels for fermenting traditional fish sauce, with an estimated output of 15 - 20 million liters per year.
The event took place over 3 days (June 27-29) with many outstanding activities such as exhibitions of specialties, OCOP Phu Quoc products and especially Phu Quoc fish sauce; space to experience culinary competitions with a variety of dishes made from Phu Quoc fish sauce; unique events to exchange culture and tourism, connect the community and promote local heritage.
