With 7.6 million arrivals, the number of international visitors to Vietnam increased by 65% over the same period last year and increased by nearly 4% over the same period in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Notably, the number of Chinese visitors in May 2024 reached 357,000, higher than that of Korean visitors with 351,000.

However, in the first 5 months of the year, the scale of the Korean tourist market is still the largest in Vietnam, with over 1.9 million arrivals (accounting for 25.7%). China ranked second, reaching 1.6 million arrivals (accounting for 21.2%), equal to 402.3% compared to the first 5 months of 2023.

A March 2024 study on Chinese consumer sentiment by Dragon Trail International showed that Chinese tourists are now ready to explore the world , and the market is recovering well. However, Vietnam's tourism industry is facing fierce competition with other countries in Southeast Asia, especially Thailand, to welcome this influx of tourists.

In third place is Taiwan (China) with 529,000 visitors, the US in fourth place with 350,000, Japan in fifth place with 289,000. In the top 10 largest markets of Vietnamese tourism are also Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, Cambodia and India.

According to statistics, revenue from accommodation and catering services in the past 5 months is estimated at VND296,300 billion, up 15% over the same period last year. Revenue from tourism and travel is estimated at VND24,200 billion, up 45%.

Tourism revenue of some localities increased quite high compared to the same period last year, such as Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Quang Ninh...

Also according to data from the General Statistics Office, the number of international visitors to Vietnam in May 2024 still came the most by air with nearly 1.2 million arrivals, followed by road and sea.
